JDM Wheels and SOA?

So I am new to the BRZ club, but not to Subaru's having modified an 04 WRX with some JDM STi Bits.

My question is hopefully pretty straight forward and easily answered by longtime BRZ aficionados. I really want to place an order for the JDM STi BRZ wheels and a few other JDM bits, but importing costs are such a pain.

My question, and I know its a loaded one, What is the probability of the current JDM STi Wheels coming stateside through SOA?

Has that happened predictably in the past with the 1st Gen BRZ? I noticed their are some STi wheels for that generation that were at one point for the JDM market only but eventually came stateside. Did most of the Gen 1 JDM STi bits make their way stateside? I don't mind waiting to save a few grand in shipping/import costs.

Thanks,
Troy

Nice wagon!

Historically, it took 5 years for the JDM-spec 18x7.5 wheels to come stateside (from the 2018 BRZ tS).

The 2015 BRZ Series.Blue did come with STI wheels, but they were the same size as the stock 17x7's, while the JDM versions were 17x7.5 and 18x7.5. However, it introduced the STI lip kit stateside.

Looks like the STI lip kit for the 2022 is already available stateside (subaru.com), as well as the shift knob and push start button.

Other sought after things like JDM-spec STI springs and the STI muffler didn't make it stateside for the 1st gen. Neither did the stiffer STI engine/trans mounts and suspension bushings.

If you really want the JDM goods, I found the best sites to cross shop are Japan Parts, RHD Japan, or Black Hawk Japan. And sometimes Nengun.

The 2020 tS has bronze rims that are available stateside. May be a good substitute for around $370 ea.

Unless you know someone at SOA within the accessories planning department the chances are zero.

There will always be some meeting where they figure out what parts they want to bring in, the cost/benefit, as well as how much warranty liability they are exposed to for selling these things.

If you want it, get it on your own. Shipping costs can be mitigated if you find someone with regular ocean shipments from Japan, otherwise pay the $300-500 for air and be done with it.

BTW these are $4027 shipped to my door from Nengun:

Do you prefer any of these vendors, or do you just go by the best price?

I know I should just go ahead and pull the trigger...I love the way they look, but I just wish the offset pushed them out a little closer to the fenders...

No preference, I've dealt with all of them and no issues with any of them. I just go by best price including shipping.

This was the case in Canada when JDM cars first started coming over en masse.

Subaru dealers were selling OEM JDM parts. Subaru HQ in Japan made them stop for liability reasons...or so the story goes.

Are there any customs or import fees involved?

Yes, the courier will bill you directly before the parcel is released for delivery.

FWIW, my *wholesale cost* from an existing parts importer, landed in the US, is $1096.09 each wheel.

$4k isn't insane. Those wheels are forged. They're basically a 5x100 version of the 2015 STI wheel, except in bronze.
