Brake Upgrade Options for BRZ/FRS

Just thought BRZ owners might be interested in STi 2018+ 6/2 pot caliper kit upgrade.

Used caliper set on eBay @$2,300

If you ever need to rebuild or upgrade the calipers, we have rebuild kit here:

RB 2pc rotor kit (STi 2018+ stock size - 340x30/326x20) :

Not sure if BRZ people are doing this STi upgrade, but we used to ship "a lot" of STi rotors for WRX owners upgrading to STi 4/2 calipers.

RB rotors are made with dual lug hole pitch - 100mm (for WRX) and 114.3mm (for STi), so the rotors are fully interchangeable.

RB rear rotor hats are made with aluminum shell and iron sleeve insert so they are 100% compatible to OE emergency brakes in dimension and functionality.

The other more affordable alternative is to upgrade to 04-17 STi caliper kit.

Used caliper set on eBay $1,400

SPINDLE CLARIFICATION:

Spindle between G1 and G2 are identical in caliper mounting feature (spread, height offset etc.) except the material that G2 is upgraded to Aluminum (vs. G1 ductile iron) for weight saving, with added reinforced rib for strength & rigidity.

G1 spindle (Ductile iron):

G2 Spindle (Aluminum alloy with reinforced rib).

However if the adaptor is designed/made in such a way like shown above, it will mount to the spindles regardless it's G1 or G2.

This illustrated caliper adaptor AD111 is for WRX/BRZ/GR86 front BBK (332mm)

You can upgrade to STi (04-17) brake set up by acquiring STi calipers and RB stock replacement 2pc rotors under this link.

Front rotor: 325x30mm

Rear rotor: 316x22 (vs. OE 316x20)

Note:

Rear rotor hats are made of aluminum shell with iron sleeve insert so it's 100% compatible with OE emergency brake (The brake shoe will not score the hat unlike others two piece rotors just make the hat in aluminum to "fit" the brake shoes).

The rear rotor annulus are constrained to the rotor diameter and drum brake, so it may require trimming the pad bottom to clear.

The finest and most affordable BBK ever built for WRX/BRZ since early 2000 with rear two piece rotors that are made 100% compatible to OE emergency brake in functionality (not just for parking, neither have to delete it) - Exclusively available from RB - Not from other venders.

Rear RB 2 pot caliper with 330x22mm 2 pc rotors

Might want to clarify that this only applies to G2 BRZ, not GR86.

Let me clarify that in terms of caliper/spindle "mounting feature" they are no difference. (w/o regard to the spindle material - cast iron or aluminum).

And in fact STi (Larger rotors w/Bremb calipers) were the most popular, affordable and seamless upgrade among WRX track enthusiasts.

RB was the first brake company offered stock replacement 2 pc rotor for both WRX and STi along with EVO 8/9 at that time (in early 2000).

Not sure if you asked a right question. The proposed brake upgrades are using STi calipers and rotors.

If you are to upgrade to Wilwood BBK you would purchase the whole kit from Wilwood.

What sort of difference in the master cylinder is there? On a stock G2 BRZ, will the MS push enough fluid for the 4 or 6 pot calipers? Does it trip the ABS or other systems or is it pretty much plug and play?

With this option is it direct bolt on?
Any modification to the knuckle needed or bracket?
What rotor would you use/offer?

Looking to pick up a 2022-2023 BRZ in the future an interested in a BBK option that is similar to the Gen1 Performance Package option.

Thanks!

Stock BRZ front has a dual piston floating calipers with
  • 40/40mm (Area=50.27 cm^2) vs.
  • Sti 4 pot calipers 40/46mm (58.37)
  • Sti 6 pot calipers 30/34/38mm (54.98)
There is a difference by number but not in a way to affect the MC capacity and the brake pedal functionality based on our experience in various OE caliper retrofit upgrade projects

It's conceivable that the BRZ performance package calipers are the same as STi's 04-17, except painted in red and w/Brembo logo (vs.Black / STi.)

On eBay costing $2,000 (vs. $1,400 in black)

Just added Sti stock replacement rotor dimensions which are made for a direct replacement for STi stock so naturally the kit (w/ STi calipers) would be a bolt-on installation. Some pad trimming may be required which will be done by RB before shipment.
