17 Michelin Primacies vs 18 Pilot 4s

How is the grip compared between these two for aggressive driving?

Welcome to the forums. The primacies are much less sticky and are good for learning the limits of the car, learning to throw out the rear end, and generally skipping around and having fun. The 4S is much stickier and will let you pull a lot more G's around the corner. Completely different animals for a completely different style of driving.

Good to know tks

The r17 primacies are obviously going to be a bit more compliant than the r18 4s too. Meaning a r17 rim with the gt tires will handle poorly paved/bumpy roads more consistently, but the r18 with the performance tires will have quicker response.

The Pilot sport designation can be confusing at times. There are the Pilot Sport 4, which come on the top trim of the twins. These are a step up from the Primacies and a generally sporty tire with a focus on the street. Than there are the Pilot Sport 4S, which are again a step up and are a trackable street tire, still focused on the street but with the occasional track use in mind and more sticky. I saw a lot of instances where the 4S and the plural of the 4 were mixed up.

Indeed I've seen almost half of the reviewers mix them up, they are NOT the same tires.

i thought the Pilot Sport 4 is the summer tire, and the Pilot sport 4S is the all season tire?

Both Pilot Sport 4 and Pilot Sport 4S are summer tires at least according to Michellin themselves.

They do offer a Pilot Sport All Season 4. This is definitely their all-season

Yes the naming convention is extremely confusing as they all use Pilot, Sport and 4.

Michelin uses the Pilot name for its sporty street tires. Pilot Sport 4 and Pilot Sport 4S are summer tires. Pilot Sport A/S 3 and Pilot Sport A/S 4 are all season tires.

Coming from a 13 with primacies to a 22 with PS4 tires, it’s hard to overstate the difference in grip. The the PS4s (multiple PS4 tires) do not play around like the primacies do.

Just to make it clear the tires on your 2022 are labeled as Pilot Sport 4 OR Pilot sport 4S ?

I'll take the harder rubber all day long. Fun is fun.Effortless burnouts and fishtailing around corners is loads more fun :D than sticky tires at 35-45mph, the speed that most of these cars will drive 95% or more of the time.
