Exhaust is too loud
Hi Everyone
Getting back into a BRZ, I owned a bone stock one about 5 years ago and got rid of it too soon. I bought what I would call a heavily modded 2013 a couple weeks ago off the forum. The car is just too loud for me. :) https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147291 Relevant mods to my question: Jackson racing C38 supercharger Gruppe-S UEL header Berk catted front pipe TRD Exhaust I want to keep at the catalytic converter that it already has. I figured I would start by replacing the TRD exhaust. Do you think a stock exhaust would create enough of a restriction to affect the current tune? If so I would prob. not go this route. Stock being the cheapest option. I did a few searches looking for any information on exhaust systems that trend toward being quieter. This thread seemed to have the most information: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129294 Suggested systems: Invidia Q300 CSG Spec Touring86 Perrin 2.5" resonated Any other suggestions? With the current header and front pipe will it be possible to quiet it down with just changing the cat back? Or will it take more? Add a resonator to the current front pipe maybe? Thanks for any info or advice. |
Ditch the TRD catback all together, it's drone city. The ones you listed will bring the volume level way down.

Just try the stock exhaust after the front pipe like you were thinking.
I have the CSG touring exhaust on both of mine, it is also fairly quiet. |
I had the TRD catback and one I added a header it was way too loud. Look into the CSG Touring 86. Just a nice muffled rumble and passes sound at Laguna. Super happy with it.

Fujitsubo. They're quiet than stock or equal noise

Is it loud in terms on cabin noise and drone? That can be mitigated by replacing the 5 exhaust hangers with JDM ones. Just a bit tough to get since a lot of people started replacing the hangers after making the discovery. |

All good suggestions so far. I don't daily it, so I have some time to wait for a used system or a sale on a new one. I do want it to have a little rumble and a nice note. I didn't care for the short shifter either so I put the stock one back in. Need to post it FS. And I need to find some 18" wheels. |

I'm fully catted from headers up to the double resonated Front Pipe, I have a Hi Power HKS Spec-L and replacing the 5 hangers was the best thing I ever did. Took about a month to get the hangers all the way from Japan, I also got them when there were still some left. Try that first before investing in another catback, is cheaper. https://www.nengun.com/alpha-motorsp...d-muffler-ring |

Im not entirely sure, but the exhaust thread that talks about different hangers is here. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143514 There may have been other suggestions. |
As mentioned ditch the TRD exhaust. I have the same header with stock front pipe and catback.
I tried a TRD catback for 2 weeks, then promptly uninstalled it and sold it after my ears bleed from drone. I also installed 5 JDM hangers while the TRD was installed and it did absolutely nothing to combat the issues that exhaust has. With a aftermarket front pipe try the stock catback first. Good baseline to see if you want more volume. I've got a fujistubo authorize S on order. I will upload sound clips when it's installed. |

I had the TRD with stock everything and other than WOT in 3rd gear, I hated the sound of it. Too loud on start up, drone on the highway, and in town I felt like "that guy". |

Even a loud exhaust is tolerable if it doesn't drone. Probably why all of the OEM sounding catbacks are good options with headers. Quote:
With the TRD it created a lot of noise inside the cabin, like the exhaust was inside the car not behind it(if that's any sense). |
