I think there`s a much greater chance of seeing a new Celica than this steeming pile.

Nobody here said it was real. It's a design exercise. Relax.

Nobody here did. Yet. But they will run with it and we will see all sorts of posts as if it is a real report. The article states that it is "reported". That is a lie and the only people "reporting" anything is themselves. It isn't even a "design" exercise it is an art project with a fictional back story.

As Tcoat says, none of the information provided is actually confirmed.

LOL that is great! Not only did Auto Machi make up the story they stole some old renders from somebody else to support it. Classic clickbait slow news period.

Who cares?? Whether Toyota design studios came up with it or a college kid doing a class project, it's an interesting shape, and it exists to create discussion. And it already exists, in as much as it's online and being seen by many. That's unrelated to it being mass produced.

It is a beautiful piece of art. My objection is that the Machi article presents it as some sort of real thing with a reported back story. It isn't.
There is a world of difference between Toyota design studios and Frank down the street releasing a render.
I wouldn't even have commented on the Motor 1 version of the report since they at least were clear that it was some guys art not an official render of any kind.
If people want to discuss it and rave how great it looks or condemn it as crap that is fine but that conversation needs to be made based on it's fictional status not that it will somehow look like that if ever actually made.

Okay well I clicked on the link and it's actually Chinese (it's a Malaysian site). All the article really says is that if Toyota were to make a new generation MR2, it wouldn't be less expensive than the current 86/BRZ, at most be cheaper than the new Supra. It says nothing about any of those renders really.

These fake renders you see all the time on BestCar magazine from Japan. Nobody would think they are real, unless you're really dumb.

@Tcoat that translator of yours is getting quite good I must say.

venturaII 03-28-2019 11:59 AM

Discussion about how it would evolve were it to go to production is still a valid topic, even if there's no chance of it happening.

You know as well as I do that there are many people that will beleivethat the statements there are somehow true.

The translation was done by the China Division of Tcoat Forum monitoring Corp.

And my dismissal of the renders as fiction is as valid a discussion point as any on how it would "evolve".

How will this render "evolve" into a MR2?

Mirrors on the doors, realistic wheels and tires, headlights that actually provided usable light, etc. Not too hard to imagine it more 'productionized' and less futuristic, which was one of the original comments...

Or it could be nothing even remotely like the render.

krayzie 03-28-2019 04:00 PM

Here's the real concept car.

Hmm...real headlights, open grille, side view mirrors, parts bin door handles, and wheels with appropriate offset.
