What should I do about a tire has been patched by a tire chain shop, but is still lea
 

I sprayed soapy water over the patch, and not a single visible bubble formed, but there's a very slow leak on the tire as my TPMS has constantly went off and putting air in it fixes the problem. Are tire patches supposed to stop air completely or is it a fallible repair method?

If the patch is not leaking then keep spraying soapy water until you find the leak. Then ether fix yourself out have it fixed by the “Tire Chain”. Check the bead area and the service valve.

If the leak is slow enough, just keep adding air to it. I added air to a leaky tire every day for a couple years.

Check the bead. Often a tire that has gone flat will get a tiny bit of debris between tire and the rim (the proper use of the word rim!) and have a slow leak.

Check the wheel for cracks as well.

A professionally done inside patch is very strong and unlikely to leak.


Like others have said, it's probably coming from somewhere else. Check to see if you don't have another puncture somewhere, if it's leaking from the bead (check both the inside and outside bead), if it's leaking from the TPMS stem or schrader valve, or if the wheel is cracked. Soapy water is your friend.

Properly patched tires don't usually leak where patched.

A sloooooow leak can be pain to find. Bubba suggests getting or borrowing a kiddie pool, fill it with water, submerge the tire and look for the bubbles.

If you don't see any bubbles, your TPMS system is jest ah messen wich ya.

I'm voting for having them remount the tire, as it is likely leaking at the bead. Should be no charge as they just patched it.

A tire patch isn't a force field around a tire that prevents it from ever losing air again.

Maybe you've got something else poking the tire
Maybe it's losing air at the bead
Maybe it's a 2016 in the mid-atlantic region and corrosion has made it's way around the valve stem

Spray soapy water everywhere. all the tread, beads, valve, inside lip of the wheel. Everywhere.
