Some Dimensions Please...
 

To any new owners with a tape measure and 5 minutes, I'm looking for the following dimensions:
Cargo area length with rear seats down and front seats in a medium position.
Cargo area width at the narrow spot caused by the struts.
Trunk opening width.

All measurements are approximate and rounded down to the nearest half inch.

Back wall of trunk to back of 1/2 forward seat (mild recline):

• Floor to back: 60"
• Top to back: 51"

Narrowest point of trunk space (rear seat opening):

• Floor: 40.5"
• Top: 40.5"

Trunk opening:

• Bottom: 22.5"
• Top: 32"

Hight of trunk, floor to lid: 15"

Might want to include floor to bottom of passthrough to cabin. It's the thinnest section vertically on the gen 1

You're a Gen 1 owner? How do these dimensions compare?

Exact same on the gen1 except for the trunk opening. 26" wide on the bottom, 36" at the top.

Some extra dimensions for gen1:
-15.5" trunk opening measured diagonally between inner lip to upper seal
-13.5" vertical passthrough at center, which tapers to 12.5" at the sides.

Has anyone used the back seat to transport children? Can they be used for a 5 minute drive or are they completely useless? My kids 8 and 6 and I expect to keep the car for 2 years. I would need to get the kids to school and back on occasion.

Are you short? If yes, then you should have leg room behind the driver seat. If no, you might be a bit uncomfortable with your seat far enough forward for anyone to sit normally in the back.

If one of them can sit in front with the other behind the passenger seat, it should be fine regardless of driver height.

Highly dependant on how tall everyone is.

Its fine for short people (im 5'-7" and can create enough legroom behind myself without compromising my ideal driving position too badly) Taller folks will have a tough time and most likely only be able to use a 2+1 configuration as opposed to a 2+2

Its not as restrictive with the passenger side, since the front passenger can push the seat forward a bit more if needed.

Ive used a rear facing child seat in the back passenger seat with my wife in the front (5'-3") but i had to flip the front seat headrest so she can sit somewhat straight up otherwise she'd be forced to be hunched over. I even sat there once to test it myself but it was a little bit of a squeeze to get in. I think i had a little bit of forward/backwards travel to spare but you're supposed to leave like a 1" gap between the front of the child seat and the back of the front passenger seat.
The rear facer will not fit behind me in my current driving position.

I feel like around 5'-8" is the absolute tallest someone can be without having to give up any leg space in the back.

And then there's people like me (6'4") who needed to remove the bottoms of the rear seats to get the drivers seat to recline far enough back :bonk:
