Headunit Issues with IOS

Hey so I recently switched from Android to IOS. Still have the OEM 2013 Toyota headunit, music would play from my android phone and I'd be able to skip tracks with the buttons on the unit. But ever since I switched to ios, music plays fine but I can no longer skip tracks or hold the skip button to forward within the same song. I have to open my phone and do it from there.

Thought I'd just ask if I'm missing some setting or this is just how it is? If it helps, my other cars (2016 bmw and 2014 mini) I can still skip tracks but forwarding doesnt work.

Just kinda annoying. Is the only way to change the headunit to an aftermarket one? I don't really care enough about any other functionalities thus was content with the oem one.

Mine skips tracks with the buttons on the head unit (touchscreen 2013). What app are you using on your phone, not sure if that matters but I use Pandora.

I tried using the default player app, same issue. Now using Treble and no luck.

Must be a new iPhone problem.
Still works fine with my 6+ which is too "old" for the new versions of iOS

Will confirm with my sisters phone.

Could be iOS 15, but i'd think there'd be a lot more people with the problem were that the case. FWIW i'm on 14.8 since 15 has no features i need and you still get the security patches for 14, so why bother beta testing Apple's shit and slowing my Iphone 11 down.
