I wonder if it's also cos of the upcoming Euro 7 emissions standards that are estimated to be in effect in 2025. Which basically makes ICE cars moving air filters for the environment (air coming out of exhaust cleaner than air going into engine hahahah).

Anything labeled B is required for any on sale vehicle after July 2024.

However, the current Subaru Eyesight system seems to cover all of that. The manual would be out regardless since it doesn't work with Eyesight.

Not sure about actual crash regulations... https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/...es-in-vehicles mentions "The new rules also improve passive safety requirements, including crash tests (front and side), as well as windscreens to mitigate the severity of injuries for pedestrians and cyclists. Type-approval of tyres will also be improved to test worn tyres." But I'm not sure the context of that. The bumper, hood, and windscreen design are likely a major source of problems. The hood is too low and isn't designed to cushion a pedestrian, and the windscreen is probably too upright and wouldn't be fun to hit, or something else.

Its for the next emissions standard you would assume.

The article specifically mentions safety standards being an issue.

Perhaps they aren't saying emissions for PR reasons though. No idea.

EU specific retooling for safety (2024) only for the car to be on sale for one more year (EU7 in 2025) is probably a bridge too far.

It is because of safety regulations, not because of emission regulations. I would say a pretty bad situation for a new model car. It will come pretty late and probably with limited stock cause of the chip shortage and will stop selling after 2 years.
