BRZ dashboard rattling
Hey guys,
New to the forum. I currently drive a BRZ Ts and as of recent, the top of my dashboard is rattling every now and then. I can't remember exactly when it started happening but it's been a good few months. There is nothing on the top of my dashboard. When i apply pressure with my hands to the top of the dashboard, the rattling stops but then can be heard again elsewhere. It feels like as if there may be problems with the glue. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do? Thanks in advanced! Regards, Hogan |
It's a feature, not a flaw.

My 2013 has that feature as well. Learn to live with it. The car makes different rattles and noises at different temperatures. For example I get the dash rattle only between about 55-75* F. Below or above that, I lose the dash rattle, but gain a different rattle somewhere else.
If you develop a fix, please share. |
Finding the rattle source for me is like trying to find which smoke detector has the dying battery. I get a rattle (more like a resonance than a rattle) when I put my EDC in the glove compartment. If it bothers me too much I just throw it in the back. I used to have a rattle with a soda can in the cup holders which I resolved with Cup Holder Hero. The only other rattle was when driving alone the metal end of the passenger seat belt would hit somewhere. I ran the belt through the shoulder loop and it seemed to stop that as well.

My feature is always one of the speaker grilles.

First post so be gentle..
I have recently acquired a 2016 BRZ SE manual and I have the same issue. When I test drove the car it was quiet as a mouse. However on the way home it started :( I have had the centre vent out along with the sat nav unit out several times and checked everything and couldn't find anything "loose" I read somewhere that another owner just stiffed loads of foam in the cavity mentioned above and it cured the issue. I will give it a try and report back. Cheers Tony.. |

I realised I had 2 noises. 1. A dash creak 2. A dash rattle. To solve the creak I ordered a new centre vent (there is a new updated part which has felt strips in strategic places. I then also put felt tape all around the top of the hole in the dash where it goes. Creaking gone :D:D:D The rattle was a lot more involved. I rarely listen to music in the car but I noticed when there is a CD in the slot the rattle reduces significantly. ( I have a factory fit Alpine double DIN sat nav/audio unit) To solve the last part of the rattle was more thorough. I removed the unit from the dash and set about dismantling it. I discovered that there was a piece of "circuit printed ribbon" which due to the fact it is made of fairly strong plastic meant that when I shook the unit, the ribbon was "tapping" on the PCB above it. I managed to put some thin felt tape on the ribbon and hey presto. Tapping gone :D:D:D I forgot to take some pictures :bonk: because all my metal capacity (which is limited) was being used to not make a cock up. These noises were bothering me so much I was thinking of selling the car. To think I fixed the noises for very little £ is very satisfying. Cheers Tony.. |
