Noise on deceleration
Hey guys,
I've been trying to figure out what this rattling noise coming from the rear right side of the car. It only happens in 5th gear and on deceleration, 2500-3000RPM. I've already checked the exhaust for contact spots but all good there. I had Whiteline rear subframe inserts and whiteline diff inserts but removed since I thought they were causing this issue. The noise still persist. Anyone know what this might be? in the video below, it starts around 0:02 and ends around 0:06 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvcG2xUbRBc |
On the down hill grade into my neighborhood, my car makes a similar sound decelerating in 3rd. It seemed to louder right after I got the engine back in. Maybe a little quieter now.

Might figured out what it was. Rear passenger side shock rattles but the rear driver side shocks do not rattle when hit with a hammer.

Havent figured it out. Anyone have any ideas? This has been driving me crazy. It rattles 45-50 mph only in 5th gear.

Is it the brake rotor dust shield?

Muffler heat shield?

I checked the dust shield and removed the trunk/muffler heat shield and the noise persist. Im using a rubber mallet to check for rattles/noises but really nothing. |
If I were troubleshooting with you I'd ensure you have jack stands under the rear of the car and then get under the rear of the car while hitting that spring and with my other hand start touching individual areas of the underside of the car and see if there's any change in the noise. This would be to try to localize where that rattling is coming from. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Ive done that many times. Theres no more rattle when im hitting the springs or anywhere now but that annoying rattle noise is still there at the speeds/rpms i mentioned. I think im going to give up and get it to a shop. This is frustrating as hell. I built the motor from the short block but cant figure out this weird rattle.:iono: Hopefully its something small or simple. |
