Fog lights?

My apologies if this has been addressed, but I didn't see it. With the air intakes on the front fenders now being functional, where will fog lights end up? I have seen a couple of BRZs on dealer web sites listing fog lights as included options. Not sure if that's for real, or if a mistake.

BRZ fog lights are an official JDM option. Nobody has seen fog lights for the GR 86 yet, so I wouldn't bet on them yet.

Maybe the bottom corners of the center grill? Could look cool if they mounted behind it.

Yeah, I want someone to do a grill and fog light setup like this (but you know... better :D ).

Holy crap, now I wonder if the old scion tC foglights will fit on this

Is this what Subaru is doing? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...dfe6ea3664.jpg

See, now I'd say if you're going to go that route, go a little bigger and stick them in front of the grill. Get some rally car vibe going.

I was thinking much smaller - like less than half that diameter. Some of those HID or LED style fog lamps that would blend in better when turned off, and then be WTF bright when turned on (but angled like a fog lamp so you're not the jerk blinding passing cars).

Just my opinion, of course, but a car with a huge grill area says to me "this beast is hungry and wants to eat as much air as possible" so I'd want to block as little as possible.

I'd definitely go that route, but not behind the grill... that makes cleaning them a royal nuisance.

Take the OE grill off the car, 3d scan the full unit, and then design an opening in each lower corner with the appropriate mounting tabs to have a pair of light (something like THESE) correctly mounted and angled.

Even better!

fyi. those are the more complex, oval, and offset mounting tab toyota type fog lamps.

these versions of toyota fog light variants use a flat mounting surface that might work out better. they're also a hell of a lot easier to modify to other purposes. i installed a set on a '02 ford ranger for instance with only about an hours worth of modifications.

What about some of those little one-inch "universal" fog lights for motorcycles?

Or something like this:

honestly, looks like crap to me. no beam shaping other than a magnifying glass in front of a raw led chip, and false claim of '20w', it's 2 individually powered 10w chips that can't be on at the same time. so it's half the advertised power, with just a bright light with a lens that scatters light everywhere...

So is that true of the entire concept or simply one example that I cited?

soundman98 04-27-2022 12:46 AM

specifically that particular product at ijdmtoy.

speaking more generally, led still needs cooling capacity, so they aren't going to be much smaller than hid/halogen counterparts by any significant amount. any design that prioritizes size first is generally going to do so at the expense of output quality.
