Time to get Serious for a moment
What Brand of Helmet+Hans device do you guys recommend. Not looking top of the line but not bottom of barrel either.

Simpson helmet, Hans ...Hans? This isn't the place to skimp.

If you are running 3pt OEM belt you only have one choice in Hans, that is the Hybrid S. It is pricy, but versatile.
The HJC HC10 is pretty popular and common. I have the OMP Sport and like it. It is quite comfortable though a bit heavy. |
Simpson Hybrid S (compatible with 3-point belts and 6-point harness).
For the helmet, since SA2020 helmets are out, you can get a good SA2015 helmet at a deep discount (I never had a helmet that lasted me more than 5 years without getting absolutely disgusting inside). If you instruct, I highly recommend a Stilo with an integrated microphone. |
+1 to "Simpson Hybrid S is the only one". Just get it.
I found Bell helmets to fit the shape of my head the best. |
I have a Necksgen for a HANS and been really happy with it. It allows you to turn your head a little more to see the mirrors but also locks your head more in place for side impacts. It’s also light and doesn’t have the “wings” that go down your chest if you’re a bigger guy (I’m 245# and 5’11)

For helmets, the internet is not the place to go. Buy them from a local speed shop, or somewhere that stocks helmets and you can try them on. Some brands work for some people and don't work for others. Find what you are comfortable in.

Sit in your car car with the helmet on.

I have a Stilo ST5 and Simpson Hybrid S for the track, pricey combo, but also one of the best you can buy safety wise if you're in a 3-pt belt.

On helmets, any Snell rated helmet will be safe, doesn't matter if it costs $200 or $900. You're paying for features and comfort once you go above a certain price point. Make sure to try them on for comfort, different brands fit different heads better.
Check with the club you're driving with on helmet age rules, might be worth just going for SA2020, but you could find deals on SA2015 if money's tight. For Hans devices, are you instructing, or doing DE in your street car? There's a style of Hans that straps to your chest to supplant the use of a 5 or 6 point harness. So if you're driving a car without a 5/6 point harness you could use that. If you have the full harness in your seat, then you can use a cheaper Hans setup that relies on your harness to hold the Hans to your shoulders. I see those for sale all day on the track-oriented Facebook groups. |

Racequip and Bell and Simpson fit my head like shit. Had to undersize and cause pain to keep from pulling off. Arai was so much better. I was able to stop by Pegasus to try a bunch on - which I'll recommend over any particular brand.

The hybrid S works with any helmet?
