How many is too many??

Hello, this is my first post. Sorry if this is talked about before. Anyway. I have a 13 brz with 86,xxx miles. Im thinking of supercharging. Is this too many miles to start that kind of build? Thanks for any replys guys!

What do you want to accomplish? A track car? A daily commuter that can do a little ripping now and then?

Figure that out and act accordingly.

Im not doing any track stuff. So my question still stands..is 86,××× miles to many?

No it’s fine.

Really depends on the kinds of miles and maintenance up to that point. There's no magic number, well, except maybe 86.

One question you should be prepared to answer is: Can I afford a new motor?

You *might* not need one, but when you do, you do.

YMMV

Thanks for the replys

How much HP do you want? How has the motor been maintained? Are you willing enough to do it right? This isn't a cut and died question

I supercharged my brz at 160k miles about a year ago and now I'm at 175k. So you should be fine just make sure you add supporting mods like a oil catch can, and oil cooler. Also make sure you get a solid tune from a tuner.

I sense the irony in that statement. :scared0016:

If you are referring to my blown engine then that has everything to do with the torque it had and most likely nothing to do with the 80k miles or even running the car boosted for 30+k miles.

Why would starting to boost an engine at 86k mileage make a difference than an engine that is already boosted from the factory running for high miles? Should someone pull their turbo from their BMW after 86k miles because the motor can't handle boost anymore? Would a person be silly if they avoided power mods on a BMW after 86k miles like a downpipe or tune? Where are the threads asking if their 86 has too many miles for headers and E85? I haven't seen any, but people ask about adding FI often. For a mild build on a street car, for instance, there should be little difference in longevity.
