scraping/squeaking noise pulling away - Suspension?

I have a strange noise coming from the rear when I pull away that I can't seem to find https://youtu.be/q4-GVsJShyg

To begin with I thought it sounded like a plastic scraping sound, but on the video it sounds a bit more like a squeak. I've cleared the boot out including the spare wheel surround to rule that out and can't find any loose trim. Only seems to do it when pulling away and can't seem to reproduce it under other circumstances (such as going over speed bumps)

Has anyone had anything similar?

Hello castroneves and welcome to ye ol forum -

Maybe it's the sound of the trunk monkey waking up and changing position?

Seriously, does it make that sound (which I can't hear in your video) when backing up as well as pulling forward?

Sorry, I can't be of any help - :sigh:

Hey humfrz,

thanks for the reply!

I haven't heard it backing up, will find a car park and give that a proper go to see.

The noise is audible at 0.04 and 0.05 (almost a bit like a bed spring).

So far trunk monkey waking up is looking the most likely explanation :D

YES!

I just spent weeks trying to hunt down this scraping sound, like a metal wire being dragged against a metal surface, usually at highway speeds and over bumps. Anyway, ended up being a spot weld on the inside of the trunk surface, under where your trunk lid liner is. Basically the weld broke and the two surfaces were scratching against each other. Stuffed a tissue between them and it's gone. Not saying it's what you have but worth checking. I had to ask my wife to basically lie down on the seats and stick her head in the trunk while I drove down the street. She pointed to exactly where the noise was coming from. After weeks of being driven mad by not being able to find the cause of the noise, it felt nice to identify it in a span of 10 seconds.

Yeah it could definitely be something like that...time to strip out all the boot lining again :D

I've amplified the audio so its a bit clearer for anyone that can't really hear it :D

Yeah that sounds exactly like mine.

Here are some pics of the underside of the trunk lid

This is what it's supposed to look like. That smooth circular divot

And here's where mine separated and the white thing is a tissue stuffed in between the two layers to stop them from rubbing. Tiny tiny hole but makes quite a noise

Well, I don't want to jinx it, but I think I had exactly the same problem. There was the tinyist of breaks( not even a hole) in exactly the same place, I've put some tape on it, really pushed it into the break and fingers crossed it's gone away.

So I really can't thank you enough...no way I'd have found that without your last post. I know you're about 5k miles away, but if I'm ever in Toronto the beers are definitely on me!

My pleasure! Well my wife is the real hero for riding in the trunk to find the source of the noise :bellyroll:
