THE STIG, TOP GEAR AMERICA, WHO DO YOU THINK IT IS?

Tanner Foust is my first guess. Paul Tracy and Ken Block (too tall) are my next in that order. What's your guess????

Miniata 08-15-2012 10:57 PM

Tanner

BoxRZ_86 08-15-2012 11:08 PM

well the one thing is when you want tanner drive a car you definetly see how short he is and the stig sits in the same position, and it would make since, why hire a pro racer when you already have one on the show.

FLIPs_FR-S 08-15-2012 11:14 PM

My point exactly. Me and a friend of mine have a rather large bet on the topic

Tanner. It lets the producers save $$.

Hate that show. Why have an actual racer as a host and then make him drive poorly?

It's called entertainment for a reason.

I wouldn't call it entertainment,

I follow Top Gear on Facebook and they posted something about a new episode of TG America and thousands of people slammed that poor excuse of a show.

I don't understand why they haven't canceled it yet.

Guff 08-16-2012 01:19 AM

It's definitely Tanner...

Skyhound 08-16-2012 01:54 AM

People have apparently forgotten the few episodes where they had to drive AGAINST the Stig. He MIGHT be the Stig for the Power Laps, but then who's the Stig he has to race against? He can't really complete the challenge AND be the Stig at the same time.

civicdrivr 08-16-2012 03:54 AM

Its probably much like TG:UK where the Stig is changing.

And this weeks episode of TG:US was actually pretty good. You have to remember that the earlier episodes of TG:UK were just as awkward.

BoxRZ_86 08-16-2012 07:02 AM

i love top gear america. you cant compare the show to the UK one. actually Jeremy and James May have both said TG America is their favorite of the top gears. they have been forced to follow the format of a largely successful show and i think they have managed well. i personally hope they done cancel it. i wouldnt shed a tear if they replaced Tanner with someone else but then again it is nice that there are 3 distinct personalities on the show.

Not sure if serious...

Top Gear UK. #1.

SupraLove 08-16-2012 01:02 PM

Dale Earnhardt Jr. :P

Nah, I'm just kidding. It's probably Ken Block. When I was watching Tuesday's episode, the way he gymkhana'd that Odyssey, it's likely. But he does seem too tall...

Dimman 08-16-2012 01:07 PM

Could compare Tanner and Kill 'em All Paul in car on Supercars exposed. Tracy is a midget and has a distinctive very close to the wheel seating position.

I haven't watched either in a while though. Best part of Supercars was the stupid, but hilarious, shit that would come out of Tracy's mouth.

pyro530 08-16-2012 01:13 PM

I say it is NOT Tanner.
Tanner doesn't seem to know how to drive a car fast around a corner without making it drift. Case in point, on the most recent episode where he raced the Z06 cop car vs the street bike. He had the car sideways the whole time, when taking a corner without breaking the rear loose would have been quicker.

empower-auto 08-16-2012 01:29 PM

Surprised it's not JR. TGUSA sucks.

encity5 08-16-2012 01:45 PM

Does anyone think that they change who stig is occasionally?
I know the UK top gear stig wasn't always the same guy.

I dont think thats what he meant.

I think he meant you cant compare them because it isnt a fair comparison. And I agree.

I haven't watched many episodes, but every one I have watched, when Tanner has to actually race in a challenge he always holds back and drives like the other knuckleheads to keep things fair (which is silly since he's there as a representative of actual racers).

The sliding was probably to make it look flashy for the cameras. An actual quick line is pretty boring to watch.

Aaaand this is my problem with Top Gear US, it's dumbed down to much. If I want to see sliding, I will go watch a drift event.:mad0260:

Rampage 08-16-2012 05:37 PM

Anytime they test an American car on Top Gear UK that is all they do, slide around corners. And then they bitch about the cars having insufficient rear traction. Learn to drive!

Well, anyway that is what they did on the one or two episodes that I actually subjected myself to. Monty Pythons Flying Circus meets the motor car. Lame.

GuySmily 08-16-2012 06:40 PM

I would actually like to see project car / tech stuff on the show. Or is that on too many other car shows already? Fix up a daily driver, build a rock crawler, restore a classic, race prep an FRS... whatever would be cool.

What I meant can't compare is not to say one is better then the other but treat them as separate things, one is for American culture and the other is for European, like you wouldn't see the uk top gear doing a moon shine challenge. I'm just saying I appreciate them for being them. The uk top gear is great and it's just not fair to compare one to the other for me.

rice_classic 08-17-2012 02:40 AM

Welcome to America where we bemoan and take for granted just about everything.

TG USA is great for an American television show that has commercials and corporate overlords (unlike TGUK/BBC). Also, I think TG USA is getting better every episode. The guys are more relaxed and are having more fun the show is constantly being tweaked and improved.

If anyone thinks TG USA sucks so back, go back and watch season 1 and 2 of TGUK... it's not any better.

Guff 08-17-2012 03:24 AM

My only problem with TGUS is the cinematography. Back in the day, TGUK didn't have the money, nor the equipment, so they had an excuse. TGUS does though, they just choose not to create interesting, original sequences. TGUK is not only well scripted (usually), their production team is always pushing the envelope in filming and in post production techniques.

Car shows that try to actually be informative are boring. You'll get a very small viewing audience. OTOH, Top Gear tries to be entertaining. Whether one finds it entertaining or not depends each person's style/personality.

Lytheum 08-20-2012 01:33 AM

my complaint with tg usa is they only do the challenge stuff. where are the new car reviews? the news? half the time they dont even do the star in a car segment.

its decently entertaining show and ill watch it when its on

civicdrivr 08-20-2012 11:49 AM

TG:UK doesn't have to deal with commercials, TG:US does. Trying to fit all if that in the show is difficult.

Plus the "big star, little car" segment (horrible name btw), was extremely boring. None of the hosts have the personality to make the interview interesting, nor can they comment in the lap.

I think for right now they're just sticking to what they do best, doing challenges.
