Toyota 86 after crash engine wont start
Hello everyone, recently I've bought crashed toyota 86 after lift. At first the engine was starting normally, but after removing all front parts (lights, bonnet, bumper, fenders, front reinforcement and air filter housing box) the engine won't start. When I try to start it, it cranks, so seems like the starter works and then it ceases and fails to run the actual engine and goes out with a giant puff sound. My guess is that engine got blocked because of lack of air filter box. What do you guys think?
Also after crash, both driver and passenger airbags got activated and seatbealts got blocked. I will replace it with new ones, but my question is what else needs to be done. I've read that airbag sensor crash data needs to be removed, but what about impact sensors? Are they one-time use only? I've checked them, and they are all fine from an external point of view and not burnt. Or maybe there is some else part to replace? Thanks in advance :) |

Is the fuse box securely screwed down? It is how it gets it’s ground so if loose no start.

Reinstall the air tube from the throttle body to the air box (with the MAF sensor) if the MAF is not installed in that tube, the car won't start.
As far as the airbags, must replace the SRS computer or have it reprogrammed, and replace any deployed airbags. The sensors are normally OK to reuse unless they are physically damaged, crushed, cracked, etc. |
So it looks like it is that MAF sensor problem, i had to remove it since it was broken. I will try to replace it this week and see if that worked out.
About impact sensors, do you know any way to ensure they are working? Ashikabi suggested that they are one time use, and I need to be 100% sure they are reusable. It is all about safety in the end:iono: |

Yes, everything fine there:cheers: |
Do 86s have an intertia switch? Most euro cars I’ve owned have a switch in the engine bay which activates upon impact (think it cuts fuel or something).

Most safety related items (impact sensors, SRS unit, airbags) are one time use. You will need to find replacements, ideally from a dealer as usually these cant be had on the 2nd hand market.
As you crank the engine does it sound normal or does it make whining or grinding noises? Before going nuts see if you can turn the engine over by hand. If it turns over by hand great, the engine isn't seized. But if all the airbags went off I wouldn't be surprised to find the engine immobilizer went too, and that will prevent the car from starting. Usually you'd see a little key light on in the dashboard to illustrate that. |
