I saw the JP version a few days ago and I believe he was praising the chassis and the handling, but you can never be sure with the machine translation. Looking forward for the English translation.

boy_racer 10-14-2021 02:27 AM

Yeah me too, especially compared to his own car

He said BRZ is a best handling car ! You could go on the track without changing the coilover....
The BRZ is more pleasant to drive.

Lol. The video is up and I think that he nailed it. He said that the GR86 is a very good car and an actual upgrade from the old one. He called the old one "Toyota 86" and the new one "Lexus 86". It is somewhere in between the old car and the new Supra, BUT he also said:

"It is too attractive! But this is Vintage Time Channel, not an online shopping channel...

I think my 86 is like a sports car for ordinary people, but the new GR86 is a sports car for rich people.

For people who have enough money to buy new GR86, please buy it."

Which is exactly of what we were saying here. Main issue will be the higher price and the additional taxes to be paid each year. It looks that this problem will be more intense in Europe and Japan, but we'll need to check how well it'll sell in other regions too ...

Tsuchiya: "I bought my AE86 in 250,000 yen and spent about 13 million yen on tuning my AE86".

After seeing him say that I feel much better for the $ I spent on my mods hahhha

nikitopo 10-21-2021 02:22 AM

Tsuchiya is one of the few to stand out on this topic. I had the same feeling on certain mods. They weren't working that much or they ruined the feel of the car. So it was like burning money, but fortunately not that many.

Some mods are more for our liking than function. Its like a personalisation that we like to do.

Then there are some mods that not many will feel the difference but nevertheless it makes a difference.

Then you have mods that are 'generally' accepted that are known to make the most difference discernible by almost everyone.

But this is what makes the modding world so interesting. :)

Tsuchiya san is trying to get everyone motivated to buy one MT as to keep the interest going in this sports car that we are lucky Toyota is still making.

nikitopo 10-21-2021 01:19 PM

Tsuchiya tries to motivate young people, but as well to not fell victims of the known modding scene. It is pretty clear in the video. There are many cases in our platform where things can go wrong. For example air cold intakes, fancy pulleys, noisy exhausts with excessive drone, shitty tunes, cheap coilovers to name a few ...

I think he is also urging people to buy the 2nd gen if they can afford it because he feels we are lucky to even get these affordable sports coupes in this day and age where many countries are cracking down with emissions. Which is why he closed off saying we are "betraying" toyota if we don't get this car (likely a rough translation)

Yeah, we often overlook how good these cars already were off the assembly line. Any significant improvements in power start with at least a $5000 price tag.

I absolutely loved this video and the fact that he mention being involved in the development of the vehicle, even future ones.

His opinion seems to resonate with the reviews, the 86 has been greatly improved. He also mentions that the GR 86 is a car that you don't need to extensively tune, or spend a ton of money for it (Same as first gen), for every enthusiast. But since he is a racing driver, he is really looking forward for suspension, tune, and tire mods.

Can't wait to see it on a time attack run.

A lot of people are still like: “I won’t betray you Toyota, I can’t wait to get this car on the used market.” Lmao. All jokes aside I was shocked seeing he actually had input.

True, but a stage 2 tune for header and exhaust for some sound can be had for less, maybe 2k and can lessen the torque dip. But requires some modification of emissions. The Nice thing is for many unwilling to do that, the Gen 2 has good power in stock form.

Also there is another video with max orido and another guy. They drive both maxes and tsuchiyas car and the guy says they are very comparable to the Gen 2 in their modified form.
