Scion FRS 2013 engine vs newer engines differences

Hello,

as this is my first post here: hello all, my name is Kent and I own FRS 2013.

I have an issue with my car, I need to replace the engine.
There are some offers of engines, however those engines are much younger. For example I have 2 offers, one is the engine from 2019 and second one is from 2016.

I am looking for a list of all differences between the engines for the given years and also maybe some has some expierience/knowledge which exactly engine I should be looking for to have the guarantee that it will fit my FRS 2013...

I would really appreciate all the helping answers.
Thanks,
Kent

2013 and 14 are the same. I think they started making changes in 15. There are some good threads on this forum. Use the thread search and/or google to find them.

Check the manufacturing date of the 2016 engine. If it is before July 2016, then it'll be easier to swap it in your car. Engines after that date is more difficult to swap, but not impossible.

14's got head updates. 15's are largly the same as a 14' except it got updated engine harness and coil packs. 17'+(facelift) engines got some internal upgrades to make them a bit more durable. The engine harness and sensors were updated again. The crank position sensor is a different type and the reluctor wheel is different. There are also issues with using the 17'+ rom with an older car as it causes immobilizer issues.
