Fuck, I want a Hyundai...

Just when I think I'm in the clear of ever buying a new car...

Seats 5, I4 Turbo-diesel with 300 ft-lbs of torque, looks like it's smaller than a full sized sedan, toss in a manual and a towing package with enough beef to haul a racecar to the track and/or a small boat and I'm sold.

Maybe I won't be hanging on to my POS Nissan until I die...

Actually AWD standard!

oops, AWD is an option FWD standard:

Don't know anything about Hyundai's HTRAC system but that's the plan for the concept:

If starting under $26k, yes.

If starting at $30k, pass.

Absolutely correct, budget will make or break this thing, based on their goals (turbodiesel 4, AWD, utility/comfort/affordability) I'll be surprised if they can nail <$26k, but if they can it will undoubtedly be a success.

IMO if I can walk out the door for <$30k I will definitely give it serious consideration, this is the only compact truck I can see on the horizon, like the Toyobaru without support it will be many years before we see another.

roddy 01-12-2015 09:21 PM

Not a Hyundai fan, but that looks pretty cool...reminds me of a Subaru BRAT.

Decay107 01-12-2015 09:38 PM

I'd seriously consider it assuming under $30K OTD, it's exactly what I've been looking for in a DD.

fatoni 01-12-2015 10:08 PM

why does anybody think this would be under 26k?

JoeC 01-12-2015 10:10 PM

I'm surprised so many people here like it. It reminds me of the subaru baja and I remember a car reviewer describing that as a good vehicle for people who haul things like palm trees one at a time.

I guess it's just not my cup of tea. When I need a truck, I want a truck. Which I guess is why I have a Silverado 3500HD.

OICU812 01-12-2015 10:44 PM

Really, that thing is UBER gay, seriously like a El Camino humped a Subaru Forester or something??? :barf:

Model Citizen 01-12-2015 10:45 PM

The better the concept the bigger the letdown

OICU812 01-12-2015 10:46 PM

Well I wouldn't own it if I won it, immediate sell for cash. That is all....

chaoskaze 01-12-2015 11:46 PM

I like it haha. But didn't ford say they gonna reintroduce Ranger in US? If they start the small truck segment again, I doubt this thing will see the light...

Ultramaroon 01-13-2015 12:46 AM

I don't know how one determines sexual orientation of a vehicle but regardless, I think it looks great. It does resemble a Brat.

mike the snake 01-13-2015 09:19 AM

These looked cool, saw the Top Gear review on TV

Teseo 01-13-2015 09:54 AM

I like the idea it is diesel, but i will stick with the Ford Raptor

gravitylover 01-13-2015 12:37 PM

I think I like the Ram 700 that was shown yesterday just as much. More actually since the price should be ~25% lower, they're saying $13-18k. I don't need the extra torque from a diesel, what little towing I've done in the last 20 years can be done with a lawnmower :) I need to move four mt bikes and gear for four people with the occasional large load o' stuff like a new lawn mower, a big tv or some wood that can be strapped to the roof if the extendable bed doesn't make it long enough. Might be nice though if it had a drop rear like the Avalanche/Baja, even better if that was a split drop so my dogs could move from inside to outside easily.

Sideways&Smiling 01-13-2015 12:39 PM

Damn it... Got excited for a second and thought they made a RWD mini drift truck. :(

strat61caster 01-13-2015 02:25 PM

@gravitylover Link? I can't find anything about a Ram 700 published within the last month...

Definitely in the running, I get that small trucks aren't everybodies cup of tea but the only reason to go bigger is for towing or ego...

themadscientist 01-13-2015 05:19 PM

I pooped this morning. What was in the bowl looked better than that.

DarkSunrise 01-13-2015 05:27 PM

I can't say I want a Hyundai, but there are two Kia's I would consider buying:

http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/...ua0swonjpg.jpg

http://images.thecarconnection.com/m...00463514_m.jpg

Ten years ago, I don't think I would have given any Kia a second thought. Times have changed...

tahdizzle 01-13-2015 05:35 PM

if the stinger actually makes production. I'd buy it.

It's probably going to debut the same time as the IDx.

It's plausible. Hell the Genesis Coupe starts at only 26k.

bcj 01-13-2015 05:58 PM

Looks like an actually useful light utility. That sector has been severely underserved for the last decade or so.
I don't need or want a full size duelly or have anywhere to park it.

I guess what I'd really like is a late 70s Tacoma, but no. Those don't return wads of cash to the T.

Nice looking car ^ What's the scoop on that one?

evan 01-13-2015 08:30 PM

There's a reason why the El Camino didn't quite catch on..

Didn't catch on? They made the thing for 24 years in the united states and GM still makes it for Australia.

http://www.holden.com.au/cars/ute

Everybody jumps to El Camino, I just want new trucks that match the everyday utility of the Hilux as the Tacoma and Ranger ballooned to ridiculous sizes. :(

gravitylover 01-13-2015 09:42 PM

They added the correction today, I had seen the article before that was added and didn't look at it again just added the link. It's too bad it sounds so final on not coming to the states. I would buy one.

Decay107 01-13-2015 09:45 PM

Yeah, on the subject of small trucks, fuck the chicken tax.

The Koreans are getting better with the styling, but they have a ways to go still.

It's known as the Kia GT4 Stinger concept. You can see more details at the link below, but it's supposedly a 2874 lbs RWD coupe, powered by Kia's 2.0T making 315 hp.

http://www.kia.com/eu/future/gt4_stinger/

The specs look good and the design looks good. I would just need to know if Kia could manage to get the driving dynamics right. I'm a little skeptical here, but Hyundai/Kia have a recent partnership with Lotus. If they could get Lotus to tune the handling for them, I'd be really interested.

I dunno, I was just in Seoul and everything on the road was a Hyundai (including taxis, obviously). They look super nice and the interiors are really nice as well, way better than much of the stuff from Japan.

Let me re-phrase and not pick on the El Camino for a minute (never mind that last year of production was 1987 (almost 30 years ago)). That *bodystyle* just hasn't really jived in the U.S. automotive industry. If people wanted a truck, they would buy a truck. Alas, it is my sentiment only..

Ultramaroon 01-14-2015 02:34 AM

Why can't we just have a modern version of this? Reasonable, reliable, can haul some shit, not trying to win any penis contest...
