There's a reason why the El Camino didn't quite catch on..

Didn't catch on? They made the thing for 24 years in the united states and GM still makes it for Australia.

Everybody jumps to El Camino, I just want new trucks that match the everyday utility of the Hilux as the Tacoma and Ranger ballooned to ridiculous sizes. :(

They added the correction today, I had seen the article before that was added and didn't look at it again just added the link. It's too bad it sounds so final on not coming to the states. I would buy one.

Yeah, on the subject of small trucks, fuck the chicken tax.

First company to bring a legitimate small pickup to the US will get my money.

The Koreans are getting better with the styling, but they have a ways to go still.

It's known as the Kia GT4 Stinger concept. You can see more details at the link below, but it's supposedly a 2874 lbs RWD coupe, powered by Kia's 2.0T making 315 hp.

The specs look good and the design looks good. I would just need to know if Kia could manage to get the driving dynamics right. I'm a little skeptical here, but Hyundai/Kia have a recent partnership with Lotus. If they could get Lotus to tune the handling for them, I'd be really interested.

I dunno, I was just in Seoul and everything on the road was a Hyundai (including taxis, obviously). They look super nice and the interiors are really nice as well, way better than much of the stuff from Japan.

Let me re-phrase and not pick on the El Camino for a minute (never mind that last year of production was 1987 (almost 30 years ago)). That *bodystyle* just hasn't really jived in the U.S. automotive industry. If people wanted a truck, they would buy a truck. Alas, it is my sentiment only..

Ultramaroon 01-14-2015 02:34 AM

Why can't we just have a modern version of this? Reasonable, reliable, can haul some shit, not trying to win any penis contest...

My turds have more utility than that thing.

What's wrong with a Ute? I'd rock a Sunny if I could fit in it!

Wow. I'm in. 52/48 sounds like they are pretty much on the right track as far as dynamics go.

Yup, like the old Japanese pickups is pretty much what I want. Need to be able to move more than two people though and 4wd with a bit of clearance rounds out the need. I had a 72 Chevy Luv, an 81 Ford Courier and a 76 Toyota and I would take any of them back now if I could but, I bet it would be quite the revelation when the realization hits that they sucked to be in. Cramped, either too warm or too cold, loud and just generally unpleasant but they sure were useful.

bcj 01-14-2015 10:47 PM

That's just it. You use them to move crap around within 10 - 20 miles.
So there's no aircon.

Here's the worlds smallest violin playing my piles bleed for you.
