who's switching from Subaru to Toyota

I had a 2017 BRZ for a couple years before sold it last year. I'm very tempting at the 2nd gen 86, but if I do get one, I'll go with Toyota GR86 this time. More dealers around town for service, cheaper insurance, and we have a Highlander and RX350 in our household, would like to keep it in the Toyota family.

Opposite for me. Bought a FR-S in 2012 and have loved driving it ever since (daily, track, autox, canyons). I preferred the look of the FR-S exterior and interior back then over BRZ.

Fast forward to today and it’s like deja vu. I prefer the look of the GR86 exterior and interior over BRZ. But this time leaning towards BRZ because I like that they changed to an aluminum knuckle and hollow sway up front.

I want to go with a GR 86 based solely on the look of the front bumper.

Leaning towards BRZ because of the claimed handling differences from both the Japanese launch drives and North American event. Sounds like it suits my driving style more. Came from a BRZ tS and GR Supra.

Wonder if it's just a bumper swap between the 2. Get the BRZ and swap the GR bumper over.

I like it. And the headlights.

I appreciate your logic, I read so many YouTube comments saying how the 86 is just “overall better” because it wants to throw it’s end out. Lol. A lot of reviewers in Japan had no issues with throwing its back end out while having the added stability at high speeds. Both are awesome cars though all around

I agree there. I had the same issue with the 2013 FR-S. When taking a corner the car would decide when to step the rear end out. In the BRZ I decided when to step the rear end out.

Sounds like a similar story 9 years later.

I switched to Toyota. I purchased a BRZ. Well it`s more toyota than a WRX

I'm wondering if the steel knuckle on the GR86 is going to be an issue with rust in the future.

Technically….. aren’t they both more Subaru’s because they’re……Subaru’s?

It's supposed to be the same knuckle as in the current car so that should give you a fairly good indication.

Contemplating switching from my 2013 BRZ to a GR86 myself..

For whatever reason, the outgoing 86 model had a higher price tag vs. the BRZ counterpart here in Canada. So if the GR86 is using the cheaper steel knuckle and same rear sway mounting as the previous gen, then hopefully the price would be lower or at least on par with the BRZ pricing.

Don't know why people are bemoaning the steel knuckles. Decided to read up on them and found a paper some weeks back (I didn't save it but I did peruse it in moderate detail) that concluded that compared to aluminium and other kinds of metals, steel knuckles retain their tensile strength over repeated flexing over longer periods of time.
Make of that what you will.

For me it makes 0 difference in choosing either car, if or when I decide to pick up a second generation.

Literally the same. Based on the initial launch drives in Japan, the BRZ sounds like it's the more stable ride. More predictable and therefore more suitable for my driving needs. Otherwise, I like the GR86 front bumper and interior better.

I guess I'll wait to drive them both before making my decision.
