Unusual Car - OFT Tuning Help (Standalone FA20)

Hi All,

Some of you may have seen my car in another thread.
Pic below to say 1000 words.

It's running an FA20 from an Australian 86.
Registered it back in February and have covered only a few thousand k's, mostly due to COVID.

I have finally gotten around to starting off some tuning with OFT and I am looking for some advice on the peculiarity of settings for the standalone engine.

I have flex fuel components on order and my final goal is running a flex tune. Just to get started I have flashed on OFT stage 1 map and already have issues (getting the map on was a challenge, but that's another story).

Just a bit more background, I am running a custom CAN 'Black Box' that I built to get the engine running (I have a background in Vehicle diagnostics).
Many years ago when I put this box together I made it as simple as possible, it just spews out the CAN frames required to keep the engine happy. However it isn't dynamic and does not change data such as road speed.

So, first problem was the launch control which doesn't disengage due to static (0km/mph) speed being reported.

So disabling launch control was an easy thing in Rom Raider, but whilst in there I started to look at what else was related to road speed and that's where my questions come from.

Below are all of the speed related tables I could find.

I could add a speed input to by black box and send the correct speeds, but I am too lazy so I am hoping to be able to just adjust the ROM instead. Alternatively I could set a static speed of say 60mph, but this might negatively impact idle etc.

I guess from the above image that things I should adjust are:

- Base Idle Timing
: Extend to use larger table OR reduce change over speed

- CL Delay (Max engine Sped) - IDLE.
: Update Idle table or fix table to set gear determination to 1st?

Looking for opinions / experience.

Thanks
Mig.

You can do flex fuel on oft if your ecu calibration \engine us pre 2017

ie flex fuel with sensor input

you could jyst do straight e85 as well though

hiwever for full flex can ve done but you need special ecu code cannot be fone on stock ecu coding.

can do flex tunes on eft or ecutek just message me

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply.

It’s a pre 17 engine.

Do you have any thoughts about the impact of not having a speed input?

Yeah lack of speed input is going to caise a few dramas, especially if you dobt jave the abs computer conected as well as stock ecu software will ve looking for both as well as dash cluster amd otjer electronics

Thanks Steve and thanks for you input via Facebook.

Just for for anyone else reading, I am faking out the ABS, so not in limp mode, but only sending out 0km/h.

After feedback from Steve I’ll work in updating my box to report the actual speed via CAN. This seems to be the easiest way to ensure everything is working.

I’ll update when done.

Mig
