'12 xB gets new stereo; will the FR-S get it too?
Hey Guys,
I read on the semi-trusty and always poorly-written Autoblog that the 2012 xB will be getting a new Pioneer stereo head unit that has streaming Bluetooth, HD Radio, aux-in, USB-in w/iPod control, and a subwoofer RCA output all standard, and then an accessory head-unit that adds a big touchscreen, Pandora integration, and 6 RCA pre-outs to add aftermarket amps! I for one hope we get the same or similar in the FR-S when it debuts. The fact that the much less expensive xB is getting these feature-heavy head-units bodes well for the FR-S getting them too. Seems a lot of manufacturers are headed this way. I would love a nice touchscreen option with pandora.
Edit: Just read the article... check them out inching up the prices a little bit on the xB. Also if the standard model allows bluetooth streaming, why would we need the upgraded model to play Pandora from an iPhone? |
Bluetooth streaming is very nice, but having Pandora integration means you control the app through the head-unit [and hopefully the multi-function steering wheel, IMO]. No fumbling for the phone.

Ahh gotcha... when will someone figure out to just make a head unit to cradle the different touchscreen phones using different adapter faceplates...

Not sure about stereo, but I hope the digital rev counter etc stays from the concept - much like the lfa. :party0030:
I think the concept also showed this area could be used as a display for satnav and stereo maybe... http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1255656088 |
I had a digital tach on my bikes in the past and to be honest I prefer the old school needle, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker either way.
|
I hope it does get that stereo for 20k+ price tag it's going to have. LOL
|
I wouldn't want that. Imagine this, reflashing your ecu and then your dash not working anymore. Yeah um, I'll pass, less things to go wrong and pay for after your 3 year warranty is up too.

The stereo will more than likely be an upgrade and a ripoff to say the least compared to a true aftermarket h/u. Anything aftermarket that is installed from the factory is usually more expensive.
The iQ looks like it has a DD Pioneer but if you build an xD, you can chose from either an Alpine upgrade ($1200 w/nav) the stock Pioneer or the Scion nav for 2K. I guess that's part of their "no haggle, stiff you in the rear b/s" :bs: |
Forget the pretty gauge cluster from the concept, just give me an empty cavity where the gauge cluster should be and let me put in my own assortment of...

I wouldn't hold out for it. |
Eh.. I wouldn't mind it but knowing scion's marketing plan adding stuff like that drives costs up obviously. I don't mind digital like PAimport says but after that 3 year warrenty. Electronic stuff starts going bad and updates are needed. Crazy pricy.
And I agree with RRnold. No haggle price is just a set income the dealer makes from the car. I bet if there was no haggle you could probably save 2-4k if you push em. |
|
I wouldnt mind the head unit that article is talking about, I'm going to add my own amp / sub arrangement, and would swap out the speakers at the same time, unless they are the best stock speakers in the history of man.
