Anyone else not planning on too much performance mods?

So I'm completely new to this platform, I've been a Honda guy mostly all my life and I'm soon getting rid of my 2020 Civic Si

I've watched almost every review possible, and it seems like the general consensus is that the car has plenty good power stock.

Usually with every car I throw on bolt on parts little by little and eventually get a tune because I always end up wanting more of an "oomf" factor from the car.

But with the GR86.. I think I might just focus on some suspension mods and a good set of sticky tires with wider wheels + catback exhaust and I think it'll be golden while being able to keep my manufacturer warranty and keeping my reliability (since the engine is a fair bit new)

Anyone else feel the same? Being that if there's no nasty rev hang like I have on my Civic Si I'll probably stray away from tuning a car for once in my life

I have a 2015, track the car quite a bit and have never bothered adding power mods. It does just fine without added power IMHO.

It's a car I could drive totally stock and be very happy.
Suspension, wheels and tires would make that smile even bigger.
EL headers and an exhaust wouldn't hurt. Add a tune and you've got an STX car.

I probably will, eventually, but probably talking years. I like the power train warranty, at least for the first few years. But I plan on a few things right off the bat. 1) Brembo swap from 08-17 STi. 2) Lowering springs to just close up that wheel gap. 3) Probably a Catback exhaust. 4) Wheels. I have some original ADVAN RZ's in getting refinished, should look awesome.

I've long past the stage of thinking of doing any mods to my car.

So its just a stock daily driver for me. The 2nd gen would be no difference.

Plus it also depends on if you are happy with the power or not. I know theres plenty of people in this forum who think this car is too slow and dangerous to drive lol. The 2nd gen torque might be enough though.

I can’t help but mod my car. It’s a disease. I like trying to improve things. Not really making a judgement that it needs it.

Jegan_V 08-27-2021 08:07 PM

I'm one of the few who was thinking about modding my FRS, but ultimately didn't really change it. I just did some badge changes which is the only obvious mods you could actually see on my car. The only actual mod I did was the horn, the stock horn was awful and it massively didn't help that when using it quite a few people looked for the wrong car and thus continue to plow into me. So I put a Subaru Tribeca horn in mine and I'm pleased with that result, far less people nearly hitting me now.

If the new GR86 has improved considerably, I think I might actually not even bother modding...unless the horn is crap again.

I might do wheels and the factory supported springs for a slight drop. Maybe an exhaust too.

Define “too much performance mods”

I’m only planning on one mod besides lightweight wheels and summer tires.

But it’s a biggie: supercharger kit :burnrubber:

Doubt I’ll touch the suspension.

The need for power mods always depends on what you want to do. someone wanting to do highway rolls will only be happy with an LS swap, someone wanting to track the car might favour reducing weight instead of increasing power, someone wanting to enjoy it as a road car might have enough power and instead go to intake/exhaust mods not for power but for a sound that pleases them more.

I've been daily driving my '17 for 4 and a half years, in sunshine, rain and snow and I enjoy spirited driving on the road, I don't think I've ran out of horsepower yet, but I did run out of tires pretty early on, so now I've got sticky Continentals. I've got a wing on the back and unfortunately that makes it a bit understeerish if I'm caning it through an interchange, so it sure could use a front splitter. TLDR: I'm trying to stick the car down on wider-than-stock ultra-high-performance rated summer tires, and I'm not really using all of the engine yet, because what I want to do with the car is stretch my face sideways.

I’m with you. The video reviews seem to be quite positive. Mine will probably stay stock for a couple years.

Yoshoobaroo 08-28-2021 09:31 AM

A catback for sound will do I think. Maybe Flexfuel if the gains are similar to Gen 1. I’m not doing a header. Not dealing with smell/bumper soot. Just not worth it.

On all cars, I used to always change my horn to Fiat air horns from a junk yard.

I did a similar upgrade to a Miata I had. Man was that thing loud!
