Can't wait to experience the GR86 platform for the first time

Hi all,

Anyone else here coming from a different platform and is sooo excited to try out the car?

I've been building my 2020 Civic Si for the last year and a half or so, and although it's great in commuting and fun to drive, I wanted a more raw and thrilling driver's experience... also RWD

I'm currently in the process of parting out my car to prepare to sell my car as soon as the 86 hits the showroom, I've already called a few dealers and gave them my contact info for them to let me know right away once they get confirmation that they have some in transit.

Been watching reviews non stop and I've never been more excited for a car, glad to be here among you all and hope to learn a lot from y'all once we get our cars!!

In the process of selling my S2000 and replacing it with the new GR86. This is as close as I think we will get in terms of a modern car matching the AP1 S2k in performance.

The reviews look amazing and all my connections on the inside are saying its not BS.

You really gonna trade in a future collector car like that? Lol. Not really a fan of Honda’s but it’s pretty widely known that the S2k is up next as far as THAT recognition.

Probably a good time to do it honestly. Banking on it becoming a high value collector car is pretty risky when prices are already high now no matter what the internet says. Covid is making a lot a cars worth much than they are in reality.

Wouldn’t be banking on it, it’s going that way due to supply and demand. Same thing with every recent Japanese classic. Especially if you would trade in a clean S2k for a WHITE GR86, which will be a super common color by the forums.

We aren’t talking about trading in a Corolla hatch or Civic Si and trying to get the most out of your trade either, I understand that, we’re talking about a coveted sports car platform. Lol

I don't collect cars - I track them.

That said, yes, if my car was a garage queen, I wouldn't be selling her right now but she's been through quite a lot and I've learnt that tracking a car like her puts me in a precarious position where I can't find parts for beyond just consumables.

The GR86? A dime a dozen and thats a good thing for me. Not trying to be unique but get tons of seat time. That was always the goal.

are parts starting to become hard to find? i sort of assumed with the cult-like status of the s2k, parts would stay relatively available for a longer than normal period of time

Yep. I was actually considering hoarding entire front ends of crashed S2ks to at least have an entire engine bay to swap out parts. Literally spending like $10k USD to do so.

Remember, I'm talking about stuff that ISN'T consumables. Engine harnesses. Heads. Etc.

Buuuuut... I live in a condo.

RIP that idea.

i get it. after owning vehicles well into the 15-20 year age span, i've learned that it's not the big mechanical stuff that stops it, it's the boring, stupid stuff. like oddly-sized plastic fasteners that become unobtanium, that really spell the end for the vehicle.

By the rate that people are chopping up twins to put on widebodies, it will also be rare to find a clean one in 20 years.

Yeah but the car is still in production. When it goes out yeah eventually you’ll see the climb in price but by that time the S2k would be like someone driving a 70s muscle car in the 90s-00s. I thought he had a perfect condition S2K and was just trading it in because he wanted the new car that bad. But he makes sense with how he was tracking it and wants a new track toy.
