Final drive ratios released for US BRZ
So the final specs are back to 4.10 for the MT and 3.9 for the AT...
Looks like I'll MAY never have to leave 3rd on "streets of willow"! |
How does that compare to current Gen?

They've probably gone with 4.1 so when the refresh comes they can give the car a performance boost by moving the ratio back to 4.3.

Many folks also complained about the high RPM's at highway cruising speeds, which will be less of a problem now with these revised FD ratio's. And as I've already said a couple of times, it will also improve mpg's at highway speeds. Personally, I loved the 4.3 and will probably miss when I get to drive a gen2 some day. But I do believe it will feel right for the updated power and much quicker acceleration. |

In the case of why they don't modify the 6th gear, I am have no clue how the internals of a transmission look, but I would assume that this kind of modification is far more complicated? My guess is you can't just adjust it to have a different ratio, as it will change the gear size and therefore force changes in the transmission internally and maybe even externally? All just guesses, but that is how I see it - and if it is the case, makes A LOT more sense to simply change out the final drive which is an extremely easy modification in comparison. |
that's true. gear box changes = millions of dollars of warranty complaints for 2-3 years. Final ratio is so EZ on a RWD car.
Personally, I wish it had a 4.3 plus the new engine. That would be really sick in traffic. burn through gears kind of quick though. it did that already hm |
less aggressive FD possibly gives them the ability to get to 60mph in 2nd gear? better 0-60 times.

My 2013 auto FD has been fine lol lol [emoji23]

Does anyone know if the GR86 differential is compatible with the first generation? so can I use my old 4.67 differential in the GR86?
And does the speedometer on the GR86 have to be adjusted, or is the speed display not inpactet by the final gear ratio, as it used to be? |

The European version has cooling fins.
It would be interesting to know if there are other differences. |
