FA24 In-Depth Look

I was articles and found this one which delves into the new FA24.

Very interesting read, worth the time. It seems the engine is derived more from the N/A FA20 than the Turbo FA24. Also, the rods are not any heavier than before but are supposedly stronger.

The con rods do look more beefy. Also interesting how the angles changed on the crankshaft end.

I like how the new pistons have been stealing meat in various ways and have been made light weight..

Wouldn't you need a long block as the heads from the FA20 aren't the same because of the bore increase?

Nice article that gives more info than was previously available. The only issue that may cause some reluctance for the early adopters is this:

"The bore x stroke is the same as the FA24 turbo for Ascent, but the engine itself is a new design. It is not at the level of tuning without the turbo. There are almost no main parts shared with Ascent.

We really wont know how good this thing is for at least a year. Remember, it's a Subaru

Interesting that they returned to an EJ like assembly where the piston and wrist pins are installed once the short block is assembled. This likely resulted in significant changes in the block as now the cylinder walls need holes in them.

To moderators: can we create a subforum on topics that apply to both GR 86 and 2nd gen BRZ?
Right now we have a bunch of threads that are in either the GR 86 subforum, or the 2nd gen BRZ subforum, that apply to both; and sometimes we end up with duplicate / mirrored topics.

I agree, not sure why they need to be divorced anyway. Most topics will apply to both cars anyway, especially technical ones.

We used to have it "married" into 1 subforum... until it got horrible w Subi bois and Toyo bois flaming at each other. From there, we had to "divorced" away to keep everyone happy. We might see it combined again, we might not. It's not for the mods to decide. It's all up to almighty god admin to decide.

Just to clarify, I feel like separate GR86/BRZ subforum are still useful for brand-specific topics
(such as availability announcements, pricing, etc.; the GR86 ducktail, bumpers, some interior parts, infortainment systems, etc.),
but then there are certainly topics that are not specific to any brand
(e.g. engine, most of the mechanical stuff, objective comparisons).

What is the sacrificial ritual to get the attention of admins? :)
