PCV question
First off. HKS supercharger, all stock engine otherwise. Installed with HKS provided tune from their now discontinued flash kit. 92 octane tune.
I read here along the way that I should be replacing my PCV valve with a Subaru STI PCV valve to deal with the boost. I did not add anything that did not come with the HKS kit, so still stock valve in place. I've had the SC on about a 1500 miles now and noticed an odd noise on acceleration this morning. Made me think something loose or rattling. Could this be the source of my noise? I checked under the hood this morning. Bolts and all clearances look good. Then I thought of the PCV valve on the way home. Any input on what they sound like when they're dying from boost? I'm not losing boost that I notice, just has an odd fluttery sound that's definitely not the SC itself. Thinking my valve may be starting give up and looking for experienced feedback. I'm new to boost, please forgive me if this is a total FNG question, just trying to understand what, if anything, is wrong or if this is normal. |
Not sure. Just do the valve anyway, it's like 15 bucks and dead easy to replace.

the pcv gives problem on high throttle /high boost but you can't hear a noise from that
anyway yes, you should change it Check all the exhaust for the noise |
Anyone know the part number for this PCV valve and/or for what model and year vehicle it's from? I'd like to have one for my Harrop when I finally get it installed.

I have noticed if I roll into it slow, no noise. Roll in hard, I hear it from 3500 to 4500, after that it stops. It sounds like some odd sheetmetal rattle, like maybe the tins on the exhaust or similar. My outback made similar noise due to tins on exhaust, I just got used to it after I figured out it wasn't something failing. I hate rattles, but who doesn't. It may not be a rattle, but still not sure, heard it for first time after car sat for 3 days while we went camping. I'll chase it down, and likely change the PCV since it's a cheap check, and from what I've read, recommended anyway. I do like that slight whistle from the SC at about 5-6k rpm though, that one should stay. |

Hmm, maybe got the number wrong there? i see an 8 instead of a 4. I see it on the Subaru website. It's the one I got. It's for the 2015+ WRX and those are turbocharged. Designed to hold boost, and it fits right into the BRZ/FRS FA20D engines. |
