Early Concept Pictures

Not sure if posted already, however I was browsing through my Pictures libary and found some shots I've made of a Toyota Hybrid Sports Car at the Geneva Autosalon back in 07.
I did not remember it to be honest, but now when I'm looking at it, it probably is the first concept of what became later the FT-86 concept.

Basicall this means that the first Idea for the GT86 was to be a hybrid thing. I'm sooooo happy that it was not built as that and that they have come up with the FT86 later.

Well, thought maybe you guys are interessted in it aswell

Those are some nice rims though lol. I definitely see the resemblance in the headlights and front grill. The FT-86 concept blows out the production version by far though.

wasnt this the rumored supra concept? although i do see a resemblence to the ft86 mkI concept.

Yup some of the design language was passed on to the FT-86 concept but this was supposed to be a future Supra.

Well, back then no FT-86 was anounced, and since the FT-HS was presented as an new Toyota Sports RWD Car, everyone guessed its the new supra. However, the size, the styling and the lack of a real supra concept 5years after that do prove to me that this was never the supra concept at all.

But thats just my opinion after seen the pictures 5years later now

I saw a concept supra and looks a lot like the frs

WingsofWar 08-14-2012 07:01 PM

if anything could be true, the supra would play off this LFLC (??Soarer Replacement??) chassy. Not the Zx6..

Much like in the past when Soarer and Supra shared performance DNA.

Pretty sure that was a concept for a future Supra considering the engine options they were talking about

Either way the design lanuage was passed on and inherited by the ft86 concept MK1 which I am still in love with.

I remember seeing this car way back then, the interior was sliiiick. Hoping they would build something out of this FT-HS concept, it was what got me interested in Toyota sports car again.

oso_25 08-14-2012 07:32 PM

Yea that's the supra concept car. Wishing they would make that car again

Xanatos 08-14-2012 07:37 PM

Next Supra maybe? The rear end needs alot of work IMO. Rumor has it that performance/price wise its supposed to compete with the GT-R.

Toyota's trademark on Supra is still open till 2014 or 2015 I think.

may be badged under lexus ?

Sasquachulator 08-14-2012 08:16 PM

you would never have dreamed of it at the time (since it was the long rumored supra revival), but you can actually see how the FT-HS 'evolved' into the first FT86 concept.
-double bubble roof
-wraparound rear taillight
-Front lights with the 'sweep' up to the headlights
-the front grille opening grew
-even the prominent front fender shape where the vents are appeared in the Ft86 concept.

could have been a coincidence (if the FT86 concept was never intended to be evolved from the FTHS) but there is quite a bit of similarity between the two.
