Improper spring installation warning

Moderator Update: Please read further along in this thread as the initial information was incorrect. The damage caused to this vehicle's dampers is believed to be installation related, and NOT related to the springs that were installed.

My friend Chris has around 4000 miles on his FRS and he installed Eibach Sportlines on his car and as of today his shocks are busted.

Going 1.4 inches lower on stock shocks is a no go.

:thanks: good to know

Im guessing that the TEIN springs would have the same outcome.

mechaghost 08-14-2012 03:17 PM

I wonder if that will affect the RCE Yellows

CBR600RR 08-14-2012 03:18 PM

Hmmmm I wonder how much the TRD springs will lower the stock shocks.

(I really don't see how the shock operating 1.4 inchers further into its travel can detrimentally affect its life span??)

Me and Luchessi told him it was riding way to rough. Car had no give at all. All I know is that if you want to lower this car and use springs then you are going to need new shocks that are adjusted to the proper size or whatever you call it to compensate.

The Eibachs come with modded bump stops. Did the guy in the OP install them? Do they know exactly why the OEM shocks failed?

I'd be surprised if the RCE Yellows would blow shocks given the R&D they've pit in and the Yellows come with modded bump stops too in order to preserve stroke.

Also, the Eibachs are one of the mildest aftermarket springs so IF this is true (I.e. We know for a fact that the spring were at fault) then I'd worry about pretty much any spring, including the TRD ones.

I think this case is likely an anomaly. Both Tien and Eibach have tested and designed certain models of their lowering springs to work specifically with the stock shocks...

Also the stock shocks are apparently over damped, meaning they will actually be better suited with a spring that has a mild drop and a mild increase in spring rate.

Yeah I'm sure its not the springs due to them being longer I bet the shocks are just seeping and not leaking

Tein has not released their super low springs yet have they? Heck, I think that there are only MAYBE 2 people on this forum with the Eibach Sportlines.

It also could have to do with how stiff the springs are. I dunno.

^ it is definitely shitty to hear that your buddies shocks and done. I guess it is time to put those stock springs back on and get the shocked replaced under factory warranty.

Heh he works for a Toyota dealership in sales. They know what he has done to his car. Depends on how much they like him I guess. :laughabove:

The Sportline's 1.4 inch drop is cutting your available bump travel down to approx 44% of what it started with up front. That's including the bumpstop in the travel too.

Our RCE springs are a mild 0.75 inch drop (20mm).

EDIT: but more details should be provided and it sounds like these are improperly installed Prokits anyway.

were the bump-stops cut to allow more travel?
