Need Help Finding Used Transmission
What up, what up!
After having the ACT Street Clutch Kit installed last November it's been a complete nightmare to say the least. From other posts I read, I had the same issue where I would get clutch shudder, and now my clutch has been dragging for several months because I could not diagnose the issue. I ended up buying a new exedy oem kit and flywheel but since I've been dailying all this time I think I'm going to replace the transmission as well. Can anyone point me to a reputable site or source to get a solid tranny? Also I went to several machine shops to get them to balance the clutch kit an make sure everything is alright but every single one told me they've never heard of clutch balancing. Any suggestions where I could get that done as well? (I forgot to mention, i flushed my clutch fluid and adjusted the clutch pedal when I noticed the clutch was dragging.) *** Parts I had swaped in, in November *** ACT Street Clutch Kit Updated Toyota Throw-out Bearing (With the white dot) Verus Clutch Fork & Billet *** Parts I'm Swaping in Soon *** Exedy OEM Clutch Kit & Flywheel Another updated Throw-out bearing Mtec Braided Steel Clutch Line Perrin & Whiteline Transmission Bushing Combo Mtec Clutch Spring Mtec Shift Spring Kit Motul tranny & diff oil |
1. Why do you think you need a new transmission?
2. What mods are done to the engine? 3. You put in a stiffer clutch with that ACT, did you upgrade the clutch fork and pivot? 4. Did you check the slave cylinder? |
I'm bone stock at the moment. When I first changed out the clutch I did get the verus clutch fork and billet installed as well. I checked the slave cylinder and no leaks or cracks. The fluid was dark so I did a full flush and there was a bit of air in the system and it helped with the gear lockout into first but it did not go away after the flush.
I was reading up on the forums and other articles, if your clutch is dragging you should not drive unless you have to. In my case I have to as this is my daily they added that if you do have to drive with a dragging clutch you will likely damage the synchros. I would much rather do the job once and swap it while I'm under there instead of doing all the work then finding out I need a tranny rebuild or swap. |
I don't think I would worry too much. Reading comprehension fail on my part, missed the fork and pivot. The ACT clutches are notoriously problematic. I'd also inspect the quill(where the TOB sits). If the TOB chewed that up it can cause issues. That part is replaceable. The Exedy clutch along with those other parts will likely resolve your issues.

I installed an Act 6 puck clutch and Street lite flywheel. It chattered for the first 100 mile them was like a normal clutch.

Idk why it's hit or miss with ACT. I went with them since ft86speed uses them on their cars. At first no shudder or anything took it easy for the 1st 1k miles but ever since the shudder got worse. Then the gear lockout came and ruined the driving experience, every single one of my shifts is late since I can't shit into gear for about a second.

It is pretty wild how different peoples experiences are. I've had mine on for about 8k supercharged miles and after the initial break in it's been flawless.

I'm betting the issue is the person installing them. ACT includes a janky plastic alignment tool that people use because they don't know any better. No issues with my ACT clutch after several thousand miles and going on over two years. |
