Really good color, do not show well in this video. I think needs a brighter day for this one.

Overall, good pallet choice. They could’ve more colors always, but it’s good enough for now.

Yeah the colour is a tough one to try to show off properly.
Because it could look like "bleh its..grey" sometimes to "damn thats an awesome shade of grey" other times.

I do wish theres more fun colours though, not just grey/white/black/silver/red/blue

But no one wants to really stand out.

Tom’s orange looks great, but I think I would be uncomfortable driving a Lamborghini color.

A army green also would be nice.

Pretty sure the orange on Tom's car is the 3M burnt orange. Looks identical to the wrap on our WRX.

I wanted to get a black BRZ and wrap it in this but got denied by my wife who apparently has laid sole claim to this color in our household. :iono:

Meh, I'd love that orange.

Maybe 4.5 years ago before I got my car I would've said "hell no!" lol.

But man, at least where I live? So many CWP/SWP twins everywhere. We had a running gag a couple years back that every time we held a South Bay meet there'd be like 10-15 white twins and then just a handful combined of the remaining colors.

I love white and don't mind that I chose it, it shows off the lines well and looks fantastic in the light and dark.

But still, it winds up being a bit more boring to me when it's parked in a row of same-colored cars lol.

Sasquachulator 08-30-2021 06:15 PM

They should bring back Hot Lava :)

Got that. I went with the WRB because I grew seeing that color on Subaru and when I decided buying one, the color was already chosen (I did not find when bought the used 18).

I do not see many twins here, so I do not have the issue of having same color cars. The Tom’s orange (3m burnt according to trippin) was one that I liked, but I think I would go with a military green if I had the choice for something different.

Thanks - that is the best comparison we've seen, and the white balance looks spot on.

Anyone else notice the marked discontinuity in colour between the Sapphire Blue hood and the front bumper? The hood has a more purple tint. It's no doubt caused by the substrate difference, aluminum vs. plastic. Not nice.

The Magnetite Grey looks just terrific here in direct sun, gorgeous.

Anyone else notice the marked discontinuity in colour between the Sapphire Blue hood and adjacent areas of the body? The hood has a more purple tint, which is weird because some of these adjacent areas lie on the same plane and are getting the same external light, so it's not an artefact of differential lighting. The difference is most marked with the front bumper, and there we have a substrate difference, aluminum vs. plastic. Not nice.

The Sapphire Blue really does change shade quite a bit just by the angle you're looking at it. It had more depth than I'm used to seeing in some other Subaru colors. Like a blurple version of the red on the ND's. Very different color depending on light and angle.

I've edited my comment because on closer inspection the difference exists primarily between the plastic bumper and the aluminum hood. This isn't being generated here by lighting or angle alone as the difference is marked right at the adjacent edges where the lighting and angle are identical, it definitely has to be a substrate issue. Hopefully it only shows up under certain narrow lighting conditions or angles of view.

trippinbillies40 08-31-2021 11:38 AM

I don't see that in the video. Definitely did not notice anything in person. And I have a feeling this will be one of the most popular colors just because of the depth it has.

Certainly evident on my calibrated monitor. It could be caused by differences in the paint's reflectivity on different substrates, reflecting more light when on aluminum than plastic. If you don't see it in real life, that's great:

I definitely can see it in that picture.

The Magnetite Gray was my default choice before there were any pics or videos to reference, but all of the examples that surface keep justifying that decision for me. None of the colors look bad, but this one really stands out to me.

It looks awesome in person, but its a tough colour to portray properly in pictures.

Midnightsky 09-03-2021 02:04 AM

Mmmm WR Blue

suhhh 09-15-2021 05:19 PM

Man.. I can't pick a damn color...

Found a dealer near me that will knock $1000 off MSRP for me so I gotta go in by Saturday, but every single day I switch between wanting white, WR blue, and perhaps silver.

WHY IS THIS SO HARD

tbh the BRZ in red does look pretty damn good but that wrb pearl is just SOO good...

McMCOO 10-21-2021 09:17 PM

This BRZ is listed as available at a dealer on cars.com. Haven't heard of "ignition" blue.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3bea24a870.jpg

Ignition is ignition red.

If that was combined with a non-black interior like Magnolia (or cream, or tan) which seems very unlikely, that would be a game-changer.

Eliminating "pavement colors" like white, silver/grey or black, which we avoid, that only leaves red and two blues. And my wife's last two cars have been red, and right now we have 2-1/2 red cars (and seven red bicycles), so I think she wants a change. Blue remains likeliest unless offerings change.

It is surprising to me that it seems like they really settled on that silver color for the press cars and promo videos, because *in my opinion* that is the ugliest and most boring color this car comes in. The silver color in my mind makes the whole car look cheaper and lower quality, and less like the toy it is.

If you ordered a silver car, please disregard this post. :respekt:

P.S. Cool Sunbeam!

I don’t usually like silver cars. Silver screams boring to me.

But holy crap the BRZ pulls it off. Farah’s onetake had my jaw on the floor because how nicely the car’s lines play with the metal flake in the silver. It’s gorgeous.

Not exaggerating, I must have watched that video around 10 times now. lol

The lighting and scenery is just gorgeous. Matt usually shoots early and I think this is right after dawn, and you can watch it in 4k or 1440p.

I wish there was a version with no talking in it so I could hear the engine the whole time. Something about the mic they used or the encoding makes the engine noise sound really good in this one. I am absolutely sold, I can't wait for mine to get here.

Still think it would be better in any other color, but nothing about this particular video is boring or ugly.

I don’t take offense. Color is a preference I ALWAYS, until now get White cars but I liked about 4 of the brz colors (grey, silver, dark blue, and white) I settled on silver but keep telling myself it will all work out. I think some colors show the lines better. Maybe why they picked silver for the press videos. Also reviews say the car looks better in person (any color) I would never normally pre order but my current life situation is pushing me to “leap” Silver plays into that too.

While we did have one silver (1986 VW GTI) car in silver w/no complaints, I think the the car's lines better be really good because there's nothing to distract you if they are not IMHO.

(and thanks for noticing the "other, other car" even if off-topic)

The silver on the BRZ is really nice. Not too dark or too light. In person it looks to almost have a bit of a blue/purple tint in it. I almost bought a 2017 BRZ PP in that color. Sort of reminds me of some of the higher end silvers you find on BMWs and Mercedes. It also looks really good with the black wheels.

If Toyota offered the GR86 in that silver, I'd be thrilled.

Definitely the best interior sound I have heard to date by some margin, I sure hope it is accurate.
