LED replacement bulbs - CANBUS?
Swapping the incandescent bulbs for LED looks pretty straightforward, but before I order I wanted to double check if any of them require CANBUS type bulbs, or if there are any other compatibility issues. I know the W*W bulbs are just the normal 194 base, that's just the wattage spec.
From the 2020 Owner's manual Light Bulbs Bulb No. Watts Type Exterior: Front side marker lights #194 3.8 A License plate lights W5W 5 A Back-up lights W16W 16 A Interior: Trunk light W5W 5 B Interior light Festoon 10 C A: Wedge base bulbs (clear) B: Wedge base bulbs (amber) C: Double end bulbs |
It doesnt matter if they are CANBUS or not. I have all my interior/exterior bulbs switched out with LEDs from Diode Dynamics and they have been on there close to 5 years now without any issue.

Yea there’s no bulb detection in these cars, you can put whatever in.
However, for pre-facelift cars you will need an LED compatible turn signal relay. |
So long as you get from reputable companies like Diode Dynamics & GTR Lighting that have good warranties too, it shouldn't be a problem. I switched to all LED's on my `13 FRS & '17 BRZ with mostly Diode Dynamics without any problem.
