Got an FRS with Tomei headers, what do about melted plastic
Got an Blue BRZ recently, and my mechanic just called he said the plastic surrounding the front right fender liner is somewhat melted away. It may have had Tomei headers on early in the life of the car, not clear. Mechanic is asking if he should cut it more (and/or remove) to ensure it does not melt further. If he leaves it, he would like me to check it regularly to ensure it does not melt more. Anyone else had to make this decision? Thanks in advance!

This may be an indicator of something else being wrong. An unwrapped TOMEI header shouldn’t be melting anything.

I don't believe it relates to your header.
Might want to get under it yourself and take some pictures for us to see. Definitely piqued my curiosity. |
x3.This is something else. I've had an unwrapped Tomei UEL header for 3 years and 20-30 track days - no melting to speak of.

The earlier version of our twins has smaller heat reflect cover than the later versions.
I experienced the same melted plastic cover, so changed to new part and substituted the heat reflector with DEI's. Attachment 202138 Attachment 202139 The new part numbers are, UNDER COVER-SIDE,RIGHT 56440CA032 (56440CA030; 56440CA031) COVER, ENGINE UNDER, RIGHT SU00306486 |
