FT86Motorsports Turbo Kit Review

After last summer, I wanted to go FI on the BRZ and put some real power down. I was prepared to spend upwards of $6,500CAD before tax for a full turbo kit (excl. tuning, ecutek, etc.).

While sourcing a kit I liked, I spoke to the gentlemen at FT86Motorsports and we spec'd out their kit with the GT2860RS turbo along with their in-house built UEL manifold. The kit came with everything needed to jump on the dyno - BOV, wastegate, boost controller, full ceramic coating on downpipe + manifold, etc.

What stands out to me the most is how you get EVERYTHING in ONE order, for literally $4,600CAD + tax. This is with their crash bar INCLUDED (Which other manufacturers don't provide, meaning you spend $400CAD on a Drift Armor crash bar after buying the turbo kit). Additionally, you have a wide range of turbos to choose from, PLUS the option to run a turbo that they may not have listed. On top of this, you can choose to powder coat your piping whatever colour of your choice, so you're not tied down to whatever they offer (like other manufacturers). I got mine done in paint match silver!

I've had the turbo on the BRZ for around 2 months now and it's insane how good of quality this kit is. The external wastegate sounds insane and the blow-off valve sounds exactly how you'd expect. The car put down 300whp on the dyno on safe track-day levels of boost, so I was incredibly pleased with the results. Even more pleased with the price tag.

My IG is @sctbrz if you wanted to reach out for any additional photos of the kit!

Nice. Their kit is one I've been considering.

The merge collector on their manifold is a little concerning from a flow performance standpoint.

That isn't their manifold, it's a Full Blown Motorsports manifold, made about +10ftlbs of torque without changing any boost from the stock manifold, so seems like the dyno checks out!

Thanks! It's FullBlownMotorsports and I recommend it. Way more torque

Highly recommended. I actually got dyno'd at APH in Markham, Brian does insane work with these engines

We can't see any of the manifold on your car. I was referring to the one in the pics on their site. Did you replace the FT86motorsports kit manifold with a full blown one? If so, why? And did you include that in the $4600 price tag you talked of above?

My mistake, I thought you were referring to the intake manifold and not the turbo manifold, yes the turbo manifold is included in the price and is built in-house by them, my bad for the miscommunication :)

They offer an Equal Length manifold option as well, for $200 more

@scottryan Do you have to make modifications to the front bar with this kit?

CSG Mike 09-03-2021 02:03 AM

Makes me sad when parts are just blatently copied.

I'm a little confused, is the front mount turbo design patented? Sounds like FT86MS is simply making a turbo kit that's affordable and made in Canada to reduce costs to Canadian owners, they don't even advertise on US markets..

Are they copying JDL, HKS, SBD, or Greddy? Because they all look identical.

Aftermarket front bar is included in the kit, no need to modify anything. Just swap them.
