Unexplained power cutoff
I am in a boosted e85 auto.
The car is 2015 Nov. The problem is when you hold it at a high rpm and suddenly decide to floor it, the car will cut power. It is like a 2 step limiter where you bounce off a certain RPM which is not the red line. Not sure why that happens. I notice that this happens when the torque converter is unlocked. It has happened even I turned off traction control. And I don't think traction control will cut power by having an instant rev limiter at a certain RPM. Does anyone have any clue? :search: |
Check your tune and log some data. With FI and E85 none of the stock parameters should mean anything.
|
ecutek? probably boost limiter by ecutek closing throttle to 20%, need a log or kind of useless talking
|
Are you turning off traction control via the single button, or are you holding both buttons (VSC + TRAC) for 3-10 seconds? I would also do the pedal dance and then try to repeat your launch. If the symptoms persist then my guess is that there are some hard limits on your tune for boost, fuel pressure or some parameter that is causing throttle cut. Like others say, a log would be good.

Does anyone know what I should look for in the log?
My tuner would have access to the log but I need to be able to tell him what to look for. Thanks in advance. Also @Tcoat : what do you mean by stock parameters? @tomm.brz : Yes it is ecutek @Irace86.2.0 I turned off traction by holding it down. No paddle dance and haven't tried. Also when this happens, the traction light did not flash. |

@Tcoat
What I have experienced is definitely not the new limiter. I know we lowered it to 7200ish and I have reached that rev at some point. What I have experienced is a cut off at around 5k, so it is definitely weird. |
don t you have a personal ecutek kit? you do not need your tuner to log, k xonnect your PC and just log, replicate the cut and post it
otherwise we can not help you in any way |
If you don’t know how to log with ECUTEK then ask or look it up. It isn’t too hard. Try to replicate the power cut then post the log to Datazap or something and post here.

Ok, I will try to log it when possible. I don't have an ecutek kit, I think it is expensive to buy one and I got my turbo etc.. done with a tuner.
This is a video if it helps at all. At 4.5k rpm you can see the rev limit I talk about. In this video, it only occurred for half a second but in other times, it occurred for longer as if there is a rev limiter there preventing me to rev higher. https://youtu.be/H_vHSxgHcSY |
seems the ecutek boost limiter
bad tune |
Does it do it in every gear?
|
It happens in second gear. But never tried for other gears because too fast for the roads.
|
In the video you are in 1st gear then it hesitates or loses traction around 4500 rpms and then it shifts to 2nd, and is the power cutting out or did you just let off the gas? I can't tell.
