Almost looks like a Time Attack style, rather than Super GT. Hard to tell from pictures like that but it doesn't seem as wide as a GT300 car would be, if that's what it is (I could be wrong). The 2019 GT300 BRZ I saw in person earlier this year seemed wider, from my recollection anyway.

Disregarding the aero lip, why couldn't they have used a front bumper design like this instead of the tear drops?

Honestly tails are fine w me ;)
I love the headlights and tails on the '17-'20 cars, with the kinda eagle-eye hawkeye look, I like the new arguably cleaner designs too. IMO an update is an opportunity to go with a different look and add some variety. I'm usually not so much a fan of design updates that chain themselves to heritage design cues...

It looks cool I guess, but then these are silhouette racing cars that don’t share any real panels or parts with the road cars, aren’t they?

None of that really matters to me. I just think it looks awesome.
