Legit or not? Alfadan’s 7.5L 4 cylinder
7.5L NA 4 cylinder that revs continuously at 5500 rpms and makes 650hp using a reinvented connecting rod and maybe Freevalve and Mahle is involved. Sounds too good to be true.

My guess is variable compression rods like those used in the Infiniti motor, which should eliminate the need for balancing shafts. Mahle is working on special pistons. Freevalve is doing the heads and pulling off some major improvements in power and efficiency, which is allowing high compression.
Just a guess. |
There is not one single word on the internet other than this video. Not one word. That makes me wonder.

Oh boy. All this new tech! Maybe in 50 years it will be as efficient as a BEV of 10 years ago.

You asked the question "Legit of not"? Why ask the question if you already feel you know the answer? |

I was hoping to hear more from engineers whether the claims are even within the realm of possibility. He talks about the historical limitations, but not as much about the proposed motor. The specific output isn’t that high, but this motor would have giant pistons and/or a long stroke. I guess I could wait for an Engineering Explained video on the limitations of such a motor. |

Found this thread ripping the guy and his design apart and his practice of trying to sell people on the idea of what it could be, yet can't seem to actually provide meaningful information. The owner is in the thread doing his best to defend himself. Apparently the design patent is for a "scotch yolk engine." Someone on the forum linked the patent filing. I guess it is a sort of "holy grail" engine that nobody has figured out how to make it work. People are claiming the owner of Alfadan is intentionally hiding the truth about the engine design from investors because he doesn't want them to know it isn't really new or innovative. It just doesn't work, period. They do not have Freevalve technology. They are using a normal cam-design. Most of their claims seem to be dependent on a "2 cylinder" prototype they outsourced for construction and testing and claim it will scale up, but they aren't releasing info on the prototype. Also, it has 50% fewer parts and weighs 50% less because they are comparing a four cylinder to an eight cylinder. So the engine itself is not particularly innovative. They are just using numbers to trick people. The guy used $250K in grant money to sell himself shares of the company so he has zero risk. He is now raising $1M with the goal of $25M and I see people are calling him out because that money may be used to pay salaries that include friends and family. Basically, it is like a bad shark tank episode. Numbers! Numbers! Numbers! Growth! Money! What about the design? Did you see my promotional video!? It talks all about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6OEtpKJSgU Here are some confusing Shark Tanks to help you waste time if you are in the mood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAbkCVUKnmA |

What a cluster eff that is. It almost resembles.....one of our threads :D |
So this is like the Theranos of Marine engines... Hmm. Does the owner talk in an uncharacteristically deep voice?
RED FLAG! Edit: The supposed "secret sauce" is that they figured out some magical connecting rod design that allows the piston to have a linear speed throughout the stroke, something doesn't occur currently as the connecting rod changes it angle as crank rotates and that results in dynamic piston speeds throughout the stroke that creates an inherent imbalance in Inline 4 cylinder engines. This necessitates balance shafts or a reduction in peak RPM as the displacement increases. Supposedly this secret connecting rod means there is no imbalance they can have very large displacement 4-Cyl engines that rev really high. So uh yeah... Good luck with that. |
