Is it only in one place, The peeling almost looks like some local heat was applied ...

It rained so that’s water damage

That explains all the black cars around here we get lots of rain...

Seriously our paint is not great but I doubt our rain is that corrosive.

Apologies OP, didn't see the text hidden in the big images.

Everyone has paint chips but those are more than that, almost like the paint just didn't bond well with the bumper. Wonder if the dealer repainted it or something and did a poor job.

FWIW I have lots of stone ships all over my car from driving behind trucks in rural roads.

Not one of them has resulted in peeling like this. I even use a pressure washer and couldn't peel paint like this if I tried.

Weird, looks almost like a defect.

saltywetman 05-01-2021 11:28 PM

def looks like defective paint job. Reminds me of those neons back in the day where paint just peeled right off of bumpers

It got hit by something big and hard.
You can see the stress lines in the black plastic.
The plastic bumper flexed ever so little. The paint didn't and that is why it is pulled away.
Scrape off the loose paint and touch it up.

As I have said many times the paint on these cars is not "soft" or "thin" it is actually too hard. Instead of flexing under impact it shatters and chips. This is especially obvious on the plastic front bumper that DOES flex when hit.

Nice flexing of your knowledge. Haha!

that is nothing...if it is your first low car, be prepared to replace lots of windshields and use touch up paint. i hit an unavoidable gallon jug on the highway a few years ago that left a nice gash on the lower part of the bumper "fang" but with touch up ya can't even tell from 5 feet away lol. eventually im just planning on replacing the bumper from a cheap part out.
