Can i swap my 86 key to an FRS key?

Is it possible to swap my toyota 86 key for a scion fr-s key. Personally a much bigger fan of the FRS key.

No. Or more accurately not without paying a pile of money. They keys are chipped for the car and there is no easy way to recode them.

a little confused..if you have an 86 key without push button start, isn't the difference between that and pre-facelift FRS key just the Toyota vs Scion logo..? if so, I'm pretty sure they are the same exact model and you can just replace the cover with the logo..

Not a big enough difference to worry about but to each their own I guess.

Hmm but my current '16 and I could've sworn the '13 i had also came with the same key that you're saying is for the facelifted model except with the scion badge..and I've driven a couple facelifted 86 without the push button start and i thought they had the same key too.

My key..

I also have the same exact key for my 2015 frs.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is "Post '15"?

Actually we got the redesigned key sometime before 2017. Can confirm; I have the same exact key in the picture there, just without the Toyota logo.

This design might have debuted in 2015; my aunt's previous 2015 Camry used the exact same key fob. I can also confirm that the backs are completely interchangeable too (test fit her key cover with my key and it fit). If OP is just looking to replace the key cover, I assume he's going to need the VIN of a Scion made after 2015 (at least that's my experience when trying to acquire a Toyota key cover to replace my worn Scion one, may not be for every dealer though).

Yep I had no idea when they actually changed it but was answering more based on the original question.

What is this "key" you all speak of anyway?
FOB crowd uber alles!

More engaged in unlocking the door. Only a true door unlocking enthusiast will understand.

Switch it with the Scion IM's chunky switchblade key!

It is even better if you use the no-remote, all-analog key. Pure auto-erotica.

Well there is a lot you can do while digging through your pocket for it.

Why not both? Look down on the plebeians and enjoy the physical purity of manual actuation.

This is my keychain. I added a keyed steering lock so I can move the car around my garage without a battery in the car. Extra side benefit, FOB cloning car thieves won't get very far without steering. (A surprisingly valid concern for the size of Kalamazoo metro area (at least if vehicle theft reports on the community discussions apps are accurate)).
