235 RS4's vs 245 SX2's
I am looking for my next potential tire to maximize points for the 86cup. I have 17x9 wheels so anything up to 245 should be just fine. This will be for next season. Only can run 1 set of wheels ATM. Also the car is my daily but minimum mileage. Looking for un-sprung weight reduction with the small tire. It appears RS4 is king of long lasting 200TW tires. How much better are the RS4's vs the SX2's?

RS4 are most likely going to be capable of better lap times. However if you are running street class (or stock class), you'll have to run SX2 to be eligible for prizes.

RS4's are going to be much quicker, 100%. It's worth noting (because you mentioned it), but RS4's are a fairly heavy tire. Some of the other 200 treadwear options are much much lighter.
For instance: 255/40/17 RS4 = 27 lbs 255/40/17 AO52 = 23 lbs Looking at the rules, it appears that all the fast 200 treadwear tires come with a 2.5 point value. From the list of 1.0 point tires, the RS4 is likely the quickest option of all of those. That would be my choice in the largest size your class allows. |
How long is “long lasting” to you? Are you DD’ing with these tires?

I’d say it depends on what is acceptable tire wear and it sounds like you have another set of wheels or will in the future. I’d probably skip the RS4’s and run something else in the 200tw category that isn’t on the cheater tire list. I really liked my Z3’s, they are a fun tire to drive on and much more capable then the kook’s. Slower then re71r’s and a052’s though. Not as heat tolerant as the RS4’s. All reports on the rt660 sound good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I’ve had 2 sets of SX2s at this point that both saw high autoX and canyon use, on top of being daily driven. Got about 15k outta the 1st set (wear was even). The 2nd set (with more autoX) I got about 12k out of them in 9 months with more inner wear.
YMMV Just an FYI, the 1st set (225/45/17) was good till the chord. The 2nd set (235/40/17) went off a cliff once I got to about 1mm I’d tread left. Wasn’t progressive either. One week they were good, the next they were a mess and got progressively worse as the weeks went by. Like Ice after about a month. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
RS4 is a 200TW tire. SX2 is a 260TW tire. Just drive on both and figure out what you like!
