Today's the day...

After 10 weeks, my FR-S is at the dealership :)

I went in last week to start sorting out paperwork, and they tried taking a LOT off the value of my trade, so I'm a bit nervous. We took care of a lot that night, but now, the car is sitting there and we still don't have an agreed upon price >.<

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and my expectations low :/

I've been waiting for this car since BEFORE the original concept was even finalized, and now, it's so close I can almost taste it.

I just hope we can make the money side work out...

:w00t: congrats ! hope it works out for ya ..... I wished they could have kept the more aggressive looks of the concept (front and rear lights)

jm1681 08-13-2012 03:54 PM

I'm so close, and I know when I see it at the dealer, all logic is going to go out the window XD

Still, I know what my current car blue books at, and I really can't stand to not get what I deserve on it :(

Not to be a downer but don't expect too much.

I had to turn down 2 BRZ's and 1 FR-S because I wasn't happy with what the dealership offered me on my trade-in. Finally, I had a dealership 100 km's away that guaranteed a fair trade-in value over the phone and that's how I got my FR-S.

Good luck and here's to hoping you get a fair trade-in:happy0180:

Where in NY are you?

jm1681 08-13-2012 08:37 PM

Well, looks like I'm not becoming an FR-S today afterall :( They wouldn't budge at all, and that was that. Pretty cut and dry.

I wouldn't really give a shit, but they strung me along for 10 weeks with a number that sounded really good, and today, to be given a number $60 more than what I was originally told, I really just wanted to spit in the guys face. If I knew this was what I was in for, I never would have bothered placing an order.

The truth of the matter is, there is NO reason for ANY dealer to be fair at all when it comes to these cars. They're too hard to get, and too easy to move. Guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Suffern area, just outside of Mahwah NJ. Why for?

$60 more? Isn't that like an hour or two's work? Is it more of a pride thing? I think dealers are arseholes because they can be.. there is a large waiting list for them in Australia (2 years for a GTS)..

whitefrs 08-13-2012 08:45 PM

Im waiting on my FRS.
They told me delivery date is 8/20 so i wanted to see if mine is coming sooner lol

Sorry, I think I misunderstood what you said. They gave you a number that sounded really GOOD, and today you got $60 more than that good number? Isn't that a good thing???
Either way... I know the feeling. I was trying to warn you earlier to lessen the sting... Hope the heartbreak wasn't that bad. Just like what I said above, I had to turn down a few BRZ's and FR-S' and felt like shit, driving home in the same car I drove to the dealer in.
Learn to accept the fact that you're not getting an FR-S this time but don't shelf the idea of getting one. This'll give you the upper hand when doing a trade. Check out other dealers.... trial and error.... if you don't like their offer, walk away... you'll find a decent offer.
Goodluck with whatever you plan to do...

There is no such thing as an honest sales person. Even the ones who seem honest have something up their sleeve - they'll try to get you on extended warranties, accessories, paint/fabric protection and so on.

They're all liars and it's part of their job. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you'll have better car buying experiences.

It's a "That's-almost-an-entire-week's-paycheck" thing ;) Believe me, I want this car. But I'm not willing to take 2 grand below the estimated trade-in value of just about every site I checked for said value ;)

No, you misunderstood XD The payment they offered me was $60 more than what I was first quoted.

Make no mistake, I fully expected things to go down like this ;) I'm not upset I don't have the car today (Don't get me wrong, it BLOWS), I'm angry that they didn't budge for me in the least. A week earlier, I watched them give a guy $200 more for a '97 Galant that had been spray-painted black, with 180k on the clock. They gave that asshole (Who made the lives of those sales people a living hell for three hours) $200 over what he was first offered, and I couldn't get book value for me car?

Is that what it takes? Do you need to stand up in the dealership and scream like a rampaging fucking lunatic to get a fair deal? If that's the case, I can do that, I'd just rather not XD

While I agree and understand this fact, this just wasn't the case. I got bad information all-around, most likely because they believed that once I saw the car, I wouldn't be able to say no.

In June, I was told I could lease the car, and yesterday, I was told I didn't have enough equity in my trade to do a lease. I'll bet if I got book value on the car I would, but that's neither here nor there. If I was negative in equity, why was I allowed to get this far? I would NEVER have bothered placing an order, and waiting 10 weeks to be disappointed like this.

I have one last phone call to make today, and that's to the person who wrote down my number in June. The guy who told me he would get this done. Apparently he wasn't there yesterday, and he might have some sort of magic he'll work. I'll believe that when I see it.

After all is said and done, Toyota of America will be getting a phone call, as well as the Prestige Group, concerning my "customer experience".

I doubt very seriously that any dealer is going to give you a trade in value comparable to what they list on sites like KBB. Usually it's going to be about 20 to 25% less.

edit: though if they gave you a $60 higher monthly payment than what was quoted, fuck them.

encity5 08-14-2012 10:20 AM

Yea i always assumed KBB trade in values are more optimistic.

Although I got more than kbb on my trade in. Which was surprising
