I think the gen 1 STI exhaust sounds a bit louder, they do sound similar, great part though. Gen 1 exhaust is a different design too.

raw was commenting on sards full titanium exhaust that the guy above him posted.

You are correct. I did end up buying the STI muffler, and it cost me 146080 yen, which was $1225.35

Seriously. The Fujitsubo AR exhaust is about $900 right now, but with shipping it's over $1500. Heartbreaking lol

Heres a couple of mine. The front lip didnt ship with the hardware kit, so Im working with a local body shop who can supply the correct well nuts for install. The official hardware kit from subaru is unobtainable.

Looks really good! Where did you get the rear diffuser again... local or imported? Because I swore it was chrome over here in the US?

Edit: nvm i just had to go back a page lol

yeah this is one of the main reasons I didnt order with a dealer. On the subaru website the rear diffuser only shows as coming in silver... which makes no sense. Theres even a picture floating around here somewhere of a guy with the silver one.

Noone at subaru parts could confirm if I would get in in black or silver and obviously I wanted black.

Is this paint more of a flat gray or more metallic like the last gens?

Metallic. Its the same "Magnetite Grey Metallic" that is available for the rest of the Subaru family.

sysTERROR404 03-22-2022 07:39 PM

Wonder if those rear spats will fit the GR86.

I don't feel like getting the TRD rear bumper and would just like to do these spats. Haven't measured the bumper but I (usually don't do this) assume the bumpers are the same for both vehicles no?

they'll fit fine. no exterior differences except for the front end.

Pardon my ignorance, but I’m a GR86 owner and wondering if these fit my duck bill spoiler. BRZ colors are completely different, right?

this is just my opinion based on everything I've seen but I think the BRZ spoiler will work on the gr86 if you didn't get the extra spoiler option on it. As for the colors yes the BRZ has different colors but I've only heard about there being two versions of the spoiler a black one and a metallic grey one but ive only seen pics of the black one.

Flexible v-bar.......is this really worth it? Not sure I understand their logic here.

I recommend google sti flexible v bar. There is a few videos and reddit threads on the topic. in short people love them. I have one on my car but it came with it so I don't know any different without it. I can say based on what I've gotten out of the videos and threads hold true on our crappy pothole roads in PA. If I hit a hole it seems the absorb the impact better than other cars I owned. Also when driving the twisties the car carries itself through the turns rather than the normal body roll other cars have. It is probably more than just the v-bar but it's definitely a player in the way the car handles.

dragoontwo 06-03-2022 07:45 AM

You can buy the flexible v-bar in the USA now. It is listed on the Subaru accessories page.

Re_Invention 06-03-2022 11:28 AM

Midnight - I bought the flexible V bars for the car and replaced the solid black bars with it.

I'm a terrible judge of upgrades - I do them because tinkering on cars is half the hobby not because I'm sensitive to driving them. I could not for the life of me tell you exactly how they feel better on street or on track.

The concept behind them makes sense to me, if I'm even understanding it correctly. Effectively you get one range of motion (say horizontal) without being penalizing on another range (say vertical). So the car is supposed to feel better over bumps but maintain the rigidity when you turn the wheel and load gets transferred left to right. Again, I may be completely misunderstanding how these things work but to me that makes sense and is a pretty trick part.

I also did the flexible cross tower strut bar from the gen 1 car - it fits no problemo on our second gen cars. I also did the STI springs and lateral link set (rlca + toe arm). They installed without any issues.

The rear draw stiffener is another story though; I have that part as well, USDM cars have different crash bar supports. I could not get the draw stiffener to mount without modifying the bar supports. I've got some pics floating around in the tall thread about those notches that I needed to cut and have some more close up pics if anyone needs it. I should reach out to Subaru and let them know - unless I missed something.

Any pics of the with the STI springs?
Assuming you purchased the zd8 specific ones from Japan?

Is it the "standard" drop that springs like this get? 3/4 to 1 inch or so? Not that I'm expecting you to have measured it to the nearest 1/4 inch  just curious by eyeball what it looks like.

ericdavidchen 07-02-2022 10:08 PM

Slightly firmer but ride quality is still good and close to stock. Passed the wife test.

The precision is very much appreciated :D

I'm actually glad to hear that its less of a drop than the typical lowering springs. I want stiffer, but not much of a drop since I already struggle with ground clearance in the winter. The price is a little steep though. Either way, thanks for the info!

Here are some from the backside; I’m tempted to get the carbon wing but not sure whether it will be overkill.

Personally, I think any wing is going to ruin to the clean look you've come up with here. The black/white contrast with the duck tail also looks really good.

What catback do you have? Love the tips. I thought I wanted the AWE Touring when my '23 gets here, but many seem to have reported it's still pretty loud.

ericdavidchen 07-04-2022 01:06 AM

Thank you, for your feedback and input. The exhaust is the STI performance muffler. Pretty quite but sounds great when getting on it and at start up.

You have the build I am trying for, but can't afford yet :(

And _thankyou_ for confirming that the existing tower bar fits. Was wondering, and now I can buy :)

Notice you have the performance muffler as well, those tips are the best looking I've seen for the car bar none - just wish it didn't cost so damn much!

Did you also get the short shifter kit + the sti knob?

I'm not keen on the body kit side (though if I had white like you I would def consider it as it looks very good), but I am interested in getting the GR chassis brace kit + door stabiliser to maximise the twins 'factory' improvements stuff.

I'm waiting a little to see if STI release the same new shock that GR already have, you said you are using STI springs so I can only assume you are talking about the OG cars part?

Also, wondering if anyway knows if the OG STI big brake kit works... Or perhaps they will release a new one. Hmm.

Anyway, great car.

No problem, my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it. :)

This is what I did on one of my old E30 builds, we use to call it OEM+. And I think that's what you've got here and it's awesome. I like really like the white/black contrast and NO tinted windows. I think super dark tinted windows ruins the looks of so many cars, again, just my opinion.

Since I'm planning on doing one of the black Titan wheels, I'm thinking of going for the same red/black type of color scheme.

Now if the damn thing would just get here!
