Shutting off your "key-in-with-door-open" beeper -- it's very easy

Have you ever been working on the car, or cleaning it, with the door open & key in, but can't stand that constant beeping from the "key-in" warning? Or, you're working in the garage when you want to listen to the radio with the door open, but that very same beeping prevents you? Disabling this door beeper is very easy -- assuming you're willing to use a tool.

See this bolt on your door jamb?

Loosen it a spin or two to shut off the beeper, then re-tighten it again when you're done.

Personally, I keep handy a common nutdriver with a 10mm socket and a tab of sticky-back velcro:

There's a perfectly shaped little well to store it in the gap between the driver's seat and the door sill:

Little details . . . make a difference!

Cheers,

Dave

Does your door light still work? Does the car still know when the door is open?

Loosening the bolt essentially makes the car think the door is shut. The interior light will gradually fade out. Most importantly, the window scoots upward its last inch, as though you had closed the door. So I suggest you don't try to shut the door with the bolt unscrewed. You won't harm anything, but it takes extra force that's probably not good for the window or seals.
