hi, bro!

IMO, headunit first (get a harness if you don't want to splice any wires from your car) then change the stock separates. I like the clarity of blaupunkt. Don't really need a sub since we have a small cabin but a 10" will do - There is a thread in the forum where they build the sub through the back seats.

Unless you go kenwood then you don't really need a harness kit

He needs a harness kit unless he gets the Kenwood

Alabang BRZ 02-02-2014 10:52 AM

Depends which Kenwood he is getting.

Alabang 86 02-02-2014 06:36 PM

Careful, I bought a DNN990HD for my suburban, had lots of cool features but took a good 30 seconds to boot up. slow. gets very annoying if you're in and out of the car on errands

Yep, that's why I referred to it as "the" kenwood not "a". I was assuming he was talking about the DDX630WBT

Good afternoon tuners! :)

I found interesting topics while i was surfing.

What engine oil do you guys use now?

Toyota oem is the best or aftermarket synthetic oils?

Recommended 0w-20 but 5w-30 will do for summer season according to some threads

I think 5w-30 will be the right choice in the phils. What do you guys think?

And people suffer from shifting 2nd gear when engine is still cold so they recommend to change oem gear oil to motul 300 75w-90.

Anyone who uses aftermarket oils and thoughts??

I want to stick to what manual says but many subaru users say that thicker oil is better for boxer engine.

I will wait for your opinions :)

Have a nice day guys.

Martinnangel 02-04-2014 02:49 AM

The Toyota oil the dealers use for the 86 is mineral oil, it's up to you if you want to use that or go fully sythetic. For those of us who track our cars, we use 5w30 :)

Motul Gear 300 75w90 will not make the transmissin shift to second easier when cold :( but I would still recommend changing it out ASAP because of the metal shavings that come about during break-in. Use GL3/GL4 for the tranny, GL5 for the diff

Hi to ALL my fellow lucky owners of 86- Brz,
I'm new in here and hoping someone can help me.
I have a problem with my interior dashboard it looks like fading ( namumuti ). Reading the manual it says you just have to wipe it with clean cloth dump in a lukewarm water. I have tried it any nothing special happen. Toyota said i should use armorall but i doubt it that's the right product to use because our dashboard is different like matte but maybe i'm wrong. Anyone have same experienced or tested solution?
Thanks guys!

-Sports Car- To others it's just a toy and collection, for some it's a dream come true.

andrewFT86 02-08-2014 08:58 AM

There is "mat" non glossy armor oil

Do you plan to track your car? How do you drive it? Do you drive it like a granny or like you stole it? If you just drive it on the street and baby it, the OEM oil would be fine. Just change it at the required intervals.
If you drive it hard, or track it regularly, full synthetic 5w-30 would do fine. It then would depend on what brand you choose. Heavier weight oil tend to heat up faster than the lower weight ones on the track. HTH.

I rather spend money /time on ensuring I maximize FI or Na tune set up and will do this last (if budget permits) However, still debatable on real gains here. Cost to whp gain, meron ba? I rather jump to e85, 45 to a liter . haha

MFB 02-15-2014 01:36 PM

What oil is the 5w-30? Does it state that its for variable cam engines ?

Is this for me?

I've tried motul, HKS, and Royal purple. As far as I know, I did not see a specific oil just for variable cam engines. They all stated they were recommended for gasoline engines. :)

guys, really noob on oils.. what is the difference between 0w-20 and 5w-30? should have my change oil anytime soon and i dont know what oil to use.. plan to use 300v as well.. would it require more frequent maintenance or same with other fully-synthetic oils? i plan to have my oil change every 6 months (i average around 5-6k kms in that period) with trackdays of around 2-3 siguro in that 6 months

@Heru Farukon, there will be a track event on March 1 in Batangas and next week in Clark

Tye300 02-16-2014 10:18 AM

Lots of options for a tune. The first question - NA or FI?
Gains, NA or FI, are as posted in this forum.
Tuners: in no particular order
Autotechnika
Autoplus
Fusion R - Mark or MFB - you can pm him he does open, BRZedit and ECUteK
Orange - Dom - Orange Performance
Speedlab
Speedworks
There are other shops along Banawe as well as Autoline, that install and tune cars.

Based on the the ECUteK website only Orange and Speedworks are recognised tuners in the Philippines.
I got my AVO kit from Mark and he was the one who flashed the ECUteK tune.
Dom @ Orange, tuned my Subaru and he is a very good tuner.
No experience with the other shops and tuners.

Good luck.

Heru, we have a facebook page where we post events like fun runs, track days, meet ups, etc. Drop me a PM so I can add you to the group.

As Paolo mentioned, there will be time attack events on:
Feb 23 / Circuit Shakedown (clark international speedway)
Mar 1 / round 1 circuit showdown (batangas racing circuit)

Both events will be open to public and some of the 86/brz guys will be joining.

The group will have regular meet ups, events and track days. We can also arrange a friendly group trackday while you're here in Manila.
