I just recently found out that our 86 exhaust tips which is 4" in diameter is better compared to the FR-S tips which are smaller. With that being said I still might upgrade my exhaust and get a catback coz I installed TRD kits and the rear skirt is supposed to be for quads. Any suggestions besides the TRD quads? I know there's one by BLITZ but its waaaay too expensive...Thanks.

Anyways here are some questions on my mind

Everybody knows that TRD parts from Casa is really high in price.
The TRD kit alone cost 133k (front,side,rear)
While other shop like Cliffords etc offers Taiwan made HC racing TRD copy for gt 86. It will cost around 45k-50k with paint and install

The Question

How far are the qualities in terms of finish, looks, durability etc between the copy and the original.

I am also looking for some 18's Rays Copy. Are copies considered good too, considering i cant afford 200k for just mags alone.

I only have 200k budget to dress it up

Here are my plans

60k Mags
45k (TRD Kit "Copy")
60k Exhaust
35k Intake, Spring, Sounds

Suggestions?

@rudolfryan,

Your 200k budget should be good enough.

For mag wheels I suggest you avoid replica mags or fake mags even though their price points are very low and they look exactly like the original ones down to the stamps, engravings and stickers. Since they are fakes, there is no public company behind these products to ensure their quality, reliability and most of all safety. For 60k your options are: a) Look for second hand orig Rays mags. b) Get the cheaper orig Enkei mags which are below 60k. c) Go with Rota, or Concept One mags which have models which are similar to the popular Rays models. These are established companies which stand behind their products and have passed international quality and safety standards. For 17 inch models price range is from 25k to 35K. For 18 inch models price range is from 30k - 45k. This should give you change to buy a new set of tires as well.

For a replica TRD body kit, in terms of quality, durability, fit and finish, original ones are still the best but the HC racing ones should be good enough since these are only cosmetic and do not pose any safety issues. Price range is at 38k - 45k depending on your haggling skills.

For exhaust, you can get the complete Stivo package for much less than 60k:
a) UEL headers - 11k b) Sport plus axleback - 10k c) Resonated test pipe - 10k. Good quality, decent gains and excellent customer support.

This will give you 29k+35k to spend for:
a) Intake - just buy a drop in filter either K&N or HKS as the power gains are the same or even better than most intake systems. Price is 3.5k-5k.
b) Springs - Tein H or S Tech Lowering springs 9k - 12k
c) Sounds - FlyAudio head unit (with GPS already) 28k, amp 5k, speakers 10k

Hope this help you out.

@ciotime,

You have the following options besides the TRD quads:

1. Just bring your car to any reputable muffler shop and they can easily convert your stock exhaust to have quad tips which look exactly like the TRD ones at a fraction of a cost (5k - 7k). Sample converted output:

2. Go to Stivo Concepts (No. 10 Varitech Building, ACSIE Compound, West Service Rd., SLEX, Bicutan, Paranaque). They can custom make you quad tip catback or axleback exhausts at probably 1/4 the price of the TRD and BLITZ variants that will fill out your TRD kit exhaust openings. Give Steve Roxas a call at 09175501193. I'm sure he can help you out.

3. The cheapest ready made TRD alternative that I know are the J2 quad tip exhaust which cost about 20k if you can source them locally:

Nice pics of your car by the way.

ciotime 08-26-2013 11:19 AM

Thanks....yeah Ive seen the J2 quad tips but dunno if they're available here. Would you know of anyone selling this item here? Been reading that a lot of folks are quite SHOCKED at how cheap it is. J2 quads compared to custom made quads here which would you rather recommend?

@ciotime, If you are happy with your current exhaust and just want to fill up the TRD kit exhaust space go with option one and just convert your stock exhaust to quad tips. If you want to change the exhaust note and gain some hp as well let Stivo fabricate one for you. The problem with the j2 is that even if shops like Autokozmetix can source it for you, it will take months and months before they actually arrive.

Thanks for the advise...is there really a difference in terms of performance and quality with regards to the branded ones like Blitz,Greddy etc vs the custom ones made here like Stivos? I mean is it justified the big difference in price?

@ciotime,

In terms of quality Stivo exhausts are up there with the big name brands as they are exported to the U.S. and Japan as well (They are a sister company of Rota wheels). The quality of their stainless steel seems to be better suited for the local environment as well as there have been complaints of Greddy, AVO, etc. exhausts actually starting to show signs of rust and excessive discoloration after only a few months of use. In terms of performance, there really isn't much significant gains you can get from exhausts alone regardless of what brand you get. Tuning is required to make the most out of any intake and exhaust system. The big difference in price is mostly due to the brand premium and brand bragging rights that goes with the JDM exhausts.

Ok then thanks for all the advise...much appreciated!!!

Wow this is like all the info i need.. Thank you so much..... As you can see i am a noob on these car set ups...

Too much spoonfeeding to ask but as i live 300km away from Quezon City, may i ask for some more suggestions?

The complete Stivo Package, any shop suggestions?

I am looking for Rota Titan, but i see Rays everywhere. Sportszentrium looks nice with all those wheels in display, do they have rota there as well?

Coilover vs Springs...... Should i just go for springs right now since it would save me a lot of money on doing so? Maraming humps dito samin. Is 1.3' drop ok?

@rudolfryan,

The Rota Titans would be a good option as these are the lightest wheels of Rota at only 17.8 lbs vs. 20.1 lbs stock and these clear big brake kits as well if you ever go that route. The reason that Rays mags seems to be on almost every car in the metro is that most of them are fakes. Autoplus Sportzentrium does not carry Rotas only JDM brands. They are pricey but all their wheels are original. Another similar place with a nice display of original wheels is at Autoline.

For the complete Stivo package since you have to travel a long distance, I suggest you call them up first at 09175501193 (look for Steve) and ask them for the availability of the Rota Titans. Since they also carry springs (7k - 9k) and coilovers (34k - 36k), when you are ready to pull the trigger and buy, you can schedule it with them and have the mags, exhaust, and suspension done all in one place in a day.

With regards to coilovers vs springs, nothing beats the adjustability of coilovers. There are some affordable ones like PSR, Stivo, Cobra, Dynamics, Emotion, etc. (from 34K - 49.5K inclusive of installation). Drawback of coilovers is that even with the softness adjustment, they still tend to be stiffer than the stock suspension. Lowering springs like Tein, H&R still retain much of the comfort of the stock setup but are non-adjustable. If you find out later that you went too low, you have to replace them. Since you pass a lot of humps, try not lower more then 1 inch if you decide to go with springs. You have to consider that you will be putting the TRD front spoilers which will lessen your front ground clearance even more.
