Upgrading clutch, anything else?
Hi everyone, new guy here, and somewhat new to the platform. I have a 17 BRZ with the SBD turbo kit installed, among a few other goodies. Boost has done in my stock clutch and I have the Southbend stage 2 just about ready to go in. I've also purchased a billet fork and pivot, and a stainless clutch line. With that said, my question is are there any other simple upgrades I could perform while we have the trans out for the clutch install? Not looking to go overboard, but if theres quality of driving improvements to be made without busting the bank, I think I'd like to make them. Thanks.

MTech shift springs are an easy one.

Thanks, will do!

New throwout bearing! Usually the first thing to go on the clutch.

You might want to consider a whiteline (or similar} trans mount insert and shifter bushing to compliment the M-Tech springs.

I went with a Southbend Stage 2 clutch from 86speed. It looks identical to many Competition brand clutches I see for lower price points. This is an Exedy part. My SouthBend has Exedy stamps on every part and their TOB came in an Exedy bag. Competition brand clutches appear to be ~$200 cheaper for what looks like an identical product. Only difference I can see is the SouthBend is Red, the Competition is black. Take note anyone compiling the parts for a clutch rebuild being your TOB went south. That's what mine did, right at 88k miles.
I went full tilt on my clutch replacement, car in the shop right now. New stock flywheel, SouthBend 350tq clutch, Verus fork, coated bearing retainer, new subaru TOB, Perrin shift bushing and Whiteline trans mount bushing. Tried ordering the MTEC shift springs, but they botched the order and sent me the Clutch Spring instead. Which I recommend as I have it installed, much better pedal feel. Other than that, I'm having my brakes upgraded to Hawk pads and Centric rotors since I had half of it done and other half of parts on the bench waiting. Clutch isn't something I want to do for lack of a lift, the time and the headache. So I put the brakes on the ticket as well since I found a local shop to do custom install work for shop rate. They'll definitely be getting more of my money as my Cadillac hot rod friend recommended them after several jobs on his CTS-V. |
OEM TOB with latest part number also goes.
Just replace it and move on. Its a wear item. |
