Recently bought BRZ with OFT tuning which wasn't disclosed until a week after.

Hey,
I recently bought a BRZ from interstate and it wasn't until a week later the seller notified me that there is oft tuning on the car and now wants me to pay 500$ for the tablet.
He said he uses it on his other car but from what I've researched they can only be married to one car and as my current car has the tune, it should be married to it. I'm not interested in the tune and wouldn't mind going stock but is there any way to do this without the tablet? I'm kind of strapped of cash and 500$ is asking a lot. Is there any advice anyone can give?

What an asshole. He intentionally omits information during the purchase and is now asking you to pay up for it? If the car is yours, you shouldnt owe him jack. I think you can get the car flashed back to stock yourself if you reach out to Openflash.

If the car drives fine you can just leave it. Unless you plan on putting another tune on your car. Even if you do decide that you want to that, I’d suggest to go with Ecutek anyways. I ran an OFT tune for a whole year. I literally used the tablet once to put the tune on the car and once more to remove it. If I didn’t go with Ecutek I probably would’ve never used the tablet again. Save yourself the money. That guys a ****. A brand new one is only $450 and I sold mine for $400.

He basically has a paperweight now, I would make sure he knows this since it can only be married to one car, offer him 100 bucks or he can pound sand. If it runs fine don't worry about it otherwise.

Seems to me he forgot to un-marry it before selling you the car and now he wants to tune another vehicle but can’t until he un-marries it, so he’s trying to sell you the tuner at almost new cost so he can turn around and buy another one with minimal additional financial outlay.

You should CHARGE him $250 to un-marry the tablet on your car and tell him you are saving him $250.

You don't owe him anything. He's upset that he now has a useless box and wants to take it out on you.

Exactly! What a tool!

OFT doesnt lock ecu on your car. The oft device itself marrys to your car.

So you have no problem if car is running fine.

Also you could buy a Tactrix cable for $170 if you need to flash to stock

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice. The car runs fine so I'll probably leave it unless he decides to significantly lower the price.

How stringent are smog rules in Australia? It might be illegal to use OFT tunes where you live... hint hint.

First thing I would do is download openflash manager and make sure to grab the stock tune file off there so you have it just in case, even if you don't keep the tablet.. having said that, I'd keep it in case you want to go back to stock and save your future self 500 bucks. But if you decide to get rid of it, charge him for it.

Keep your doors locked and good luck.

I agree to that! You should charge him to let him unmarry it. Cuz he is stuck with a tablet that isn’t linked to anything. Charge him.
