Earplugs Recommendation Needed

Hello, I have a hearing condition called hyperacusis and I've been looking for the best earplugs I can get. I avoid going out this time because I am a bit of a paranoid when it comes to getting COVID19. So... I just want to know if anyone here tried buying from this website? They are called Big Ear and they offer home service for molding your ears for custom hearing protection and then they'll mail the product within a few weeks. They also do have instructions for DIY molding where they'll send a molding kit then you'll mold your ears and send back the kit with the molds. Some of their products are really intriguing and of course, I'd love to know if anyone here tried their products yet.

They look like gum, I know.

Any other recommendation?

I use the cheap foam ones from the hardware store when I shoot and drive my Lotus. Work fine.

i've seen something similar with In Ear Monitors for musicians. some of them use a UV curing method. it seems inconsistent from most of the reviews. for 'typical' ears, it seems everything just works, but people with different features tend to have issues with getting the fit correct, and getting everything formed in the right way.

personally, i tend to prefer ear plugs like this for when i need them. i find they fit easy with less fuss, and tend to fit more consistent in every use.

These are the only types of earplugs that have ever worked for me.
All others don't stay in.
This style, not brand necessarily.

I have these and can vouch for them. Love the little extra plugs for when I'm at an indoor range, or just want extra quiet. Also pretty comfy too

As a range officer in the Army, while on several .45 ACP ranges, I used these.

They weren't too effective, but, they were inexpensive and would last a lifetime -

WHAT DID YOU SAY ...... ?????????

I have two pairs I bought years ago I like, but can't seem to find now.

They look similar to foam disposable ear plugs, but they're made of a silicone like rubber and have a pin in the center which moves back and forth.

You push the pin in to seat the plug in. I found them to be quite comfortable for hours at a time. I use them when I go to the shooting range.

This company makes great stuff...

I've used the two lower end versions.. the EtyPlugs and the ER20XS models. Both are comfortable, and the ER20XS is the only earplug I've ever been able to wear AND perform as a musician as it doesn't make things sound ultra muffled and unnatural... just much softer.

Second the Etymotics... used ER20XS daily when had my FR-S, or for long trips in my Nissan Frontier and for concerts. Also have a pair of their IEMs (ER3XRs) which are neutral and highly detailed in their presentation... plus about a 42dB attenuation, blocks out most all sound, absolutely cannot talk to someone with them in. I much prefer headphones to IEMs though, so rarely ever use them... mainly only when traveling where noise isolation is needed.

I can’t vouch for your personal situation but I have used several sets of Radianz. You mold them yourself and the quantity you use dictation their db attenuation. I have a set where I used the recommended amount for maximum attenuation (race car) and another set where I used much less for sleeping allowing them to be comfortable while my ear is against the pillow. Helps for sleeping next to a snoring person or a motorhome in a noisy environment etc.

At $10-13 a set you can buy multiple at different colors so it’s easier to tell them apart for different uses.

Edit: when I’m at a race weekend and staying in the paddock for multiple days, the constant sound of the race cars will grain on me so I will often put in the ones that I might sleep in and leave them in because the background racing noise is lowered but I can still converse with people.

Also, if you’re an iphone user, while you need to speak on the phone or listen to music the Airpod Pros noise cancellation is absolutely fantastic. Won't last all day, but very good for when you need to be on the phone etc.
